TSA more gate searches in store for fliers

Not to hijack the thread here, but this reminds me... I'm rather confused. Last time I was flying through both JFK and ATL (don't remember hearing it at smaller airports), they were repeatedly announcing that "effective immediately, the TSA is allowing liquids in carry-on luggage" per the 3-1-1 rule or something to that effect.

Um... haven't they been allowing 3-1-1 liquids for quite a while now? Why in the hell are they blasting that in the terminal?

The gate checks aren't all that bad. I remember when they first started doing gate checks a few years ago. I was on a Southwest flight from MHT to BWI. They made a gate announce saying that anyone who volunteered for a gate check would get to board the plane first. I volunteered and was one of the first to be boarded, and got my choice of seats. I don't think that is how the system is supposed to work, but it worked in my favor that time. :)

The motive for the program, theorizes aviation security consultant Rich Roth, is that the TSA fears that airport workers, who are not routinely screened, could sneak weapons into the secure area of an airport and give them to passengers.

Or they could, you know, screen the workers as they show up. Did they ever think of that?

Too logical.

Also I highly doubt the TSA would screen the "suspicious" looking passengers (you know who they are, the ones with the towels on their heads) for fear of "profiling". They're going to screen the grandmas. I've seen it. The "screenee" would've had a hard time taking a dump let alone hijacking a plane.

I was WONDERING what the heck was going on the other day at KMHT. The line took FOREVER! And, they frisked me. It was rather funny, because the first few checkers said: " you might want to take your sweater off, they might frisk you for that bulky sweater." So, I did....got frisked anyway. What a collosal waste of time.......BTW, I am very WASP looking so I am obviously a terror suspect.

My guess is, that with a new president, TSA needs to "beef up" security to continue to justify its existence and its massive drain on our tax dollars.

I wonder what they're considering "at risk" flights.

Plus, I think they're already doing that. I have 'secondary' on flights to TLV.

I think the TSA "randomly" picks the types for re-screening who appear that they won't give them any trouble. There are those out there that think it's their patriotic duty to comply with the TSA and won't put up any fuss over additional screening.

Being that I live in the DC area, Im used to deadheading or JSing back to DCA or IAD and having TSA extra screen at the gate. Happened in DFW when I was going to DCA and happened in BOS when I was going to DCA.

TSA sucks! :banghead:

Any government department devoid of checks and balances where it's primary lieutenants are pretty much folks that wanted the authority and prestige of policemen, many without the requisite acumen to become so, sucks! :)

Why's PHX terminal 3 have 3 times the security personnel, twice the previous amount of scanning devices, but it's twice as slow?

This just in, starting in early 2010 all citizens will be required to pass through security checkpoints prior to entering their home vehicle. TSA agents will be assigned on a neighborhood to neighborhood basis.

Please be patient while be screen the other citizens...
