TSA...FAIL!!! Pres TFR...FAIL

been around forever
Oh don't you just love our government. tsa wants to inspect part 91 charter aircraft and pilots, but are unable to even locate a terrorist who is on their list and a cert. pilot!!

as reported by avweb.
At least six individuals listed by the FBI as possible terrorists also were listed in the FAA database as pilot certificate holders as of this June, according to The New York Times. After the Times questioned the TSA about the situation, the FAA suspended all six certificates. The Times had received the list of names from a small software company that said it found the six by comparing public records, an effort the TSA apparently never made. "The T.S.A. appears not to have taken notice of the terrorists even when two of them turned up on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Ten Most Wanted List," says the Times. A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, the parent agency of the TSA, told the Times her department would "conduct a comprehensive review to see why the system failed to identify these people" and would consider whether the department should be looking at more federal lists. This week, however, the Times wrote that the software company found one more pilot in the FAA database who is wanted by the FBI, which has offered a $50,000 reward for the accused "domestic terrorist."

Do you think presidential tfrs are a pain...hmmm welcome the new admin to a town near you!

also as reported by avweb

The last time a sitting president vacationed on Martha's Vineyard was during the pre-9/11 Clinton years, so when plans were laid for next week's visit by the Obama family, the extent of the flight restrictions was a bit shocking to local pilots. "This is the most restrictive TFR we've seen," said James Coyne, the president of the National Air Transportation Association, who has a home on the Vineyard. "I can't think of any example of such severe restrictions. It's far, far more draconian than under Clinton," he told the Vineyard Gazette. The TFR extends for 30 nm for eight days, affecting seven local airports, which are in the midst of the busy tourist season. GA pilots who want to land at the main Vineyard airport (KMVY), which is within a 10-nm inner ring, must apply for a waiver 72 hours in advance and stop at one of several specified "gateway" airports for inspection first. "It's really unfortunate ... we'd hoped for some relief for the Katama tours," said Coyne, referring to the popular grass field on the island, which offers biplane and glider rides. Since Katama is inside the 10-nm ring and there is no TSA screening facility there, the field will effectively be shut down.

we need to fire every idiot in office right now and get new people in there! IMO!

Dont worry I just had to deal with the rolling TFR in PHX. That not only made my clients mad, they then like to blame me and the company for not telling them the truth. Simple, the TFR will go active with no warning, if we are on the ground then we can go somewhere else, if we are in the air we can go somewhere else. Makes planning a trip easy and fun. This cost me my flight home and missed my kids swim lesson. Thanks goverment.

"Firing every idiot in office" would have zero effect on the TSA's policy.

It'd feel good though.

I actually LOL'd when i read that. Really? I suppose there is no limit on stupidity, but come on. TSA cant even check public info, and how does that not even cross someones mind over there?

TSA1: hey, heres this list of bad guys, but how on earth can we find out if they're flying?

TSA2: OHHH i know!!!1 we go around to aaaaall the flight schools in the country and demand rental records, and names and pictures of anyone whos ever sat in their aircraft!

TSA1: Great idea! But what if they steal an airplane?

TSA2: Well thats obvious, we just need to but guards and fences at every airport in the nation, and make anyone who wants access to that airport get a different security badge for every airport they go to.

TSA1: Brilliant! But wait, I have to be home by 9pm, or else my mom locks the door and i cant get down to my basement to play D&D online.

TSA2: LOLz You nub, we hire private contractors, the only pepople who could possibly have a bigger stick up their ass then we do!

TSA1: Of course! All of this sounds expensive tho. Theres just gotta be some kinda of list that we can compare. Oh well, Its prolly like super top secret, right? I mean, that would be disasterous if a list of all the nations pilots fell into the wrong hands. Then people could go around impersonating pilots!

TSA2: OMG I never thought of that. The answer is clear. We must get rid of all the pilots. Drive them all insane, and burden them with such high costs, and make them jump through so many hoops that no one will every fly again! Its the only way to save the moth-errrr... homeland!

Come Comrad!

Yeaaah.... thats exactly how it goes down.

If the can't even vet the FBI's 10 most wanted list, what makes anyone think they can vet everyone else who flies against the watch lists?

I hope they can find a new administrator who can beat some sense into these clowns.

The problem with that one was, his schedule kept changing, so last minute NOTAMs had to go out and revised, etc. Pain in the butt.

Bwahhhhahahahaha:rotfl:.....and replace them with who exactly?

Gov. by the people, for the people. We need everyday people, NOT a bunch of rich lawyers who become CAREER POLOTICIANS!!! I don’t want to go to the "lav" with this, but term limits are very badly needed!

The way I see it, if you and I disagree, most likely we could find some way to meet in the middle. Once you have been in office for so long, it becomes about just what THEY the politicians want, not what the people want!
again, just my opinion.:D

I think the restrictions are the same as the TFR in Portsmouth, NH last week when Obama did the town meeting thing. I fly at SFM (like 15nm from PSM) and couldn't have a lesson on that day because of it. It's ridiculous.

I would hope with replacing said idiots and replacing with people who a little common sence, we would scrap the whole TSA thing!!! A rent a cop can scan your bag just as well as these people!

You get a chance to do that every two, four, or six years, depending on who you are talking about.

And you guys need to quit your bitching, for real. You think it's a pain to deal with the TFRs that are really temporary? You put up with the crap for a few days and it's over.

Since September 11, there have been three airports in the DC area where before you can even THINK about flying in and out of there, you've got to get fingerprinted, interview with the FSDO, and get a criminal background check from both the Secret Service and the FBI. And then when you get cleared, you must call the Potomac Tracon to file a flight plan. No, you cannot do it with DUATS, you must call. And the TSA people on the field will examine your bags and the aircraft before you depart.

That's been going on for almost eight years now. Whoops, not quite, more like seven. Because for the first six months or so, no flights were allowed, period, out of those airports. The FAA flying club couldn't even move their planes from one of those fields!

Believe me, I know where you're coming from.

But politics doesn't attract people with good common sense or the 'reluctant hero' type. A politician gloms on to whatever the hot topics du jour are, tells the general public what they want to hear and voila, there's a government-sponsored retirement, health care and a coosh office in the DC suburbs.

Get involved and run! I'm serious! Good money!

Just throw some more money at it... employ some more high school graduates, should keep us all safe. Safe travels everyone...

The best part is that all of that would do F' all to stop the guy in his Piper Cub that wanted to crash into the White House.
