Federal inspectors were able to slip a bomb past the TSA 5 out of 7 times, according to the Albany Times-Union. Here's the best part: One fake bomb was placed in the same bag as a bottle of water. The TSA opened the bag, took the water, and let the bomb on the plane.

The TSA spokesperson responded:

"We don't discuss the results because they tend to paint an inaccurate picture of the competency of our work force," she said. "The tests are designed to be incredibly difficult and TSA does anticipate a fair level of failure."

They seem pretty good at detecting Evian, though, don't they?

honestly when was the last time they caught someone slipping a bomb through?

TSA Idiot said:

Of course they don't discuss it. However, it paints a very accurate picture of the compentency of their work force.

Seems to me the tests painted an entirely accurate picture, not just of the workforce, but of the agencies policies.

Good to know. I'm surprised this didn't end up on the cover page of USA Today.

Too bad it didn't. Also the cover of the New York Times and every other newspaper in the nation. It'll never happen though, W probably paid off the media so they won't reveal his beloved DHS (which includes the TSA) to be the steaming pile of cow dung that it is.

Fair level of failure in this case is 70%? Nice to know that 30% of the time there's no bomb on board......

Man, 70s aren't even that great of a grade in school, but it's okay for airport security?

I love how people on capitol hill are still laying on their back. . .and for the most part - it's an (R) after their name.

Just a disgrace.

This doesnt surprise me one bit. I flew from LAS to IAD last week. The LAS security was a joke. The TSA people are the same ones from before 9/11 just in a different uniform. They were not thorough with anything. The were joking and talking among each other, laughing at what they saw on the screen. Pretty much not taking the job seriously and they seemed to be pretending like they were working. IAD was a little better but not much, laughing and joking going on, not paying attention to detail. Its scary to watch it. Five out of seven is pretty ******* bad. Its inexcusable seeing they are the last defense. All it takes is one mistake and that mistake will happen. Gee maybe the media should report it a little more :sarcasm:. Lets give the terrorist a heads up that our security sucks :sarcasm:. What a joke.

I'm pretty sure the terraists already know where the loopholes are. Contrary to what many would have you believe, they aren't really stupid, backwoods, under-funded bumpkins living in caves.....

Good thing they take our toothpaste :)

Yeah, no kidding! I took my sons to Australia and my youngest son didn't realize he had his Swiss Army knife on him until we were leaving Cairns to fly back to Sydney, and then on to SFO. The Aussie security dude in the little Cairns airport found it, and he was a jolly nice chap about having to take it away from my son. (in a thick Queensland accent) "I can't very well take a lad's Swiss Army knife away from him, now can I? Jot down your address and we'll mail it back to the states." Can you imagine that scene going down in the US?
The amazing thing though is that he inadvertently walked through with it at SFO, and cleared customs with it in SYD!
