TSA Background checks for non-US Citizens

Hey Guys/Gals:

Just got word last week that I have a newhire class date at SkyWest on March 5th. I've been trying to make the TSA background check go as fast as possible (already submitted the fingerprints). How long does it usually take people to get an approval for Category 1 (over 12,500 lbs)? I'm hoping that 3 weeks is going to be enough. Any thoughts?

takes about a month... if you dont hear anything in 3 weeks, send them an email or call them, they usually get back pretty quick... with me it took about 3 weeks, and I hadn't heard anything, so I called and emailed them... I got responses in both and they said I should hear something in few days... at the end of the day I was approved

It took me about one week after they had received the fingerprints. This was in November 2004.

FYI: legally speaking, you can start class without approval. You just can't start simulator training.

Yeah, legally speaking... you're absolutely correct.

However, in my case SkyWest has told me that it's their policy not to let you even start class because they are worried they might have to pull you out in case it doesn't get approved. It sucks because I have no reason that it would not get approved, plus you're allowed to commence training even if you haven't gotten an answer after 30 days from submitting your fingerprints.

I have my fingers crossed!
