Trying to retrieve voice mails while traveling internationally?

I tried the different stuff. Got a TMo prepaid phone. A-frickin'-mazing. Better service than ATT, and in my room with the wifi, calling like I'm at home.

Interesting. Can you receive texts via WiFi?

T-Mobiles wifi service is exactly the same as if you were using a tower. A person can send and receive calls, texts and use data all they want. The calls are crystal clear and when I called to the states from France, there was no lag at all.

I use T mobile as well. Even worked in China for my friend on the WiFi. Just remember to turn it to WiFi only or you might get a surprise on your bill.

I use Youmail. Might take a look at that if you just want voicemail access anytime. You can access it online and it sounds just like any other normal voicemail. No tin-can. Though, checking on a public computer could be awkward. :)

I have a cellphone since 1997 never set up a voice mail...Is that weird?

I never had anybody complaining about it...I usually don`t leave voice mails, if I can`t reach a person with a call I just send a text.

I used skype when overseas for that very reason. You can get a skype number for 3 months for only $18 dollars. Then I just went online and had verizon forward my US number to my skype number. Boom....you can check your vmails internationally.

If you have a paid Skype subscription, you can also just dial your US phone number with most major carriers over Skype and it will go to VM.

Google Voice is also very good.

Things get trickier in certain places in the Middle East when you deal with Etisalat, pretty much all of China, Brazil, certain spots in the Caribb/Mex.

My real question is how in the heck did guys do this job before Skype and FaceTime and preserve marital bliss? My hats off to you, really.

Just a quick follow up: Signed up and started using Google Voice this week and seems to be alright. The transcribed message can be a little weird if someone has a thick accent, mumbles or uses slang but otherwise doing alright. The voicemail play back works well when trying to figure out any unusual context.

Yeah, those transcriptions are hilarious sometimes.
