Travel to Munich

I met a beautiful short dutch girl once. Drunk, holding my jacket over her head so the Vietnamese jungle rain wouldn't hit her, she leaned over and asked, "So what do you think about Dutch people?"

Apparently, "Austin Powers in Goldmember" wasn't what she wanted to hear.

The only short dutch girl in the world...sigh...

Dude their strollers can probably fit a 5'10 American adult. Thems some big people.

I feel like it is a powder keg, and I don't want to be there when it goes.

I had a captain tell me "I went to the train station in Leipzig and all the migrants there made me feel like stuff was about to go down."

I went there to grab lunch and mail something. Ended up working thogether with a Syrian immigrant to sort out our forms at the post office because both of us sucked at German and the lady behind the counter was being an absolute bitch about it.

I won't say that Istanbul is completely safe, but I really believe that the world is what you make it.

I hung out with an Iranian girl at Le Bourget Air and Space Museum, shared non alcoholic drinks with locals in Tunis, split a room with a Qatari... It's the not people really that scare me away from Istanbul, but the instability; I feel like the odds of me being collateral damage are higher there than most. We saw their attempted coup, they seem inches way from an another attack or all out civil war.

And yet have a smaller footprint than the monsterous "off road" stroller that forces people with one kid to buy an SUV in the US.

"But ___den needs all his things at all times!"

I used to refer to AMS as Jötunheim because it was the home of the blue frost giants.

When I was at the hotel from the divert me, a former marine, and 26 yr old Saudi guy all got drunk together at the bar. Youre absolutely right you will meet cool people no matter where you are.

How about you convince your buds that, since you're an American pilot, to throw caution to the wind and use a US carrier? :)

Sure, sounds great until you actually sit in coach on a US carrier on a 12 hour flight. Having done it dozens upon dozens of times -- yeah, I go out of my way to take KLM or Luftansa when it is the same price.

I wouldn't.

I flew Lufthansa across the pond in economy in an old 744 a few years ago. Longest 9 hours of my life. I flew United back home on the same trip and had a far superior experience.

I've flew Lufthansa intra-Europe as recently as September, and other than the fact that the A320 was brand new and the packaged sandwiches they served, it didn't seem better than any of the Big 4.

LH in Europe is crapp, a little bit better then LCC.
They new 747 and the A380 isn't that bad.

Lufthansa's First Class product is excellent. I still have a rubber ducky somewhere...
