Haha, given the speed regs in CONUS airspace, I have always thought the break was kind of a funny notion, though fun of course. Just like you said, speed up just to slow down again. Now the boat makes a little more sense...and it's always a good show at civilian airfields if the controllers/pattern permits![]()
What speed regs? If you're talking mil tactical jet.......91.117(d) applies to most. Or do you mean some piston type?
@ Ryan, not sure if you mean fleet jets or orange and whites. As a student there is no way in hell that you want to break any faster than your lead safe drops you off at (ie 250-300). I think most of us snapped a few off at low-mid 400's around the field during FCLP's, but in the -45 that normally put you about 3 miles abeam and 40-60 seconds in the groove if you didn't load up the G's in the break.....so not good for flying a good pass. I have seen HUD footage of a Hornet doing 1.0 (mach that is) coming into the overhead, but yeah, that was at the boat on deployment.
sorry I should have been more clear... the Hornets...
is that at 7.2Gs?
For the Hornet, there are different G limits depending on what stores you have on the jet.
