Practically speaking Class B is just a busy version of class D. You can't see your traffic most of the time so just take your time and do exactly as you have been trained to do. By the end of the flight you'll be a seasoned veteran who looks back at this post and laughs. Take flight following and enjoy being on the freq with the big boys.
And by all means, if you're not cleared into Bravo do what you have to so that you can stay out of it, this includes turning around. That is EXACTLY why the controller will tell you "maintain VFR".
