Trans States

So long story short, I'm going to be getting ready to making the jump from 135 to 121 very soon. So far Envoy, Trans States and Horizon have made it on to my list. There's plenty of up to date info out there on Envoy and Horizon, so no need to ask about those. But Trans States doesn't seem to have much up to date info either here or APC. I'm basically considering it because the compensation is in line with most other places, the contract looks decent from the outside looking in based on the little bit I can gather off of APC, nobody seems overly angry at the place on the internet from the bit I can gather, they have what sounds like a growing DEN base which works well for my situation and it doesn't sound like it takes long to hold it like Skywest as of right now (will have to commute from ABQ initially and DEN is probably one of few easy commutes from ABQ. Open to moving to base next year), and lastly I do know a guy who is a captain there. He generally has good things to say. So am I thinking along the right lines considering them? Any words of caution or reasons I should stay away? Resons I should go?

If you're looking at a company owned by Trans States Holdings, why not Compass?

That flow is pretty much a joke IMO. It's running 8 years for a person hired today.

8 years is a lot better than never, which is always a possibility- there are plenty of regional lifers and I doubt many of them planned to be lifers. Of course there is no guarantee the flow would work out either, since it could be cancelled or American could stop hiring, but it would be a nice advantage to have, especially since from what I understand AA is even harder than most legacies to get hired at without the flow.

Because it may not work out, it might not be a good idea to go to Envoy just for the flow, but since they pay the most anyway they seem like an excellent choice. Although I believe most new hires get LGA which would be a difficult commute from ABQ.

Money....They're not paying out any bonuses as far as I can tell and hourly rates are on the lowish side for the second year. I'm going to be taking a paycut for at least a couple years no matter where I go, but I still want to try to soften the blow a little bit and that bonus money would sure help. I've also not been reading very many positive things about Compass lately....The LAX base would be great for commuting, but horrible for living and being able to move to base at some point would be a plus too.

I hear the Envoy gets a lot of 40ish something careers changers in their classes. (Deal with it @Autothrust Blue) They go by SSN, or age. So the older guys are getting their preferred base out of training. Also I hear that most of the older guys are getting Dallas, and thus the 175. Dunno if all that is true, but that's what I've read.

So if the OP is middle to late thirties or early to mid forties, he might be able to hold DFW out of training. Not a bad commute, from ABQ.

That's what I hear too; actually the same is true at my employer- not necessarily at lot of career changers but people who have been out of the industry for a while and are coming back in. And I believe at Envoy in-class seniority is by age. I'm not sure how old one would have to be to get DFW, but @A150K if you are on the older side that could definitely make Envoy a better choice than otherwise. I'm not how in-class seniority is determined at TSA or Horizon.

The best way to look at

You select base and equipment based on age. The guys getting the 175 are usually in the 40s. Some second career guys, but as of late, it's been a lot of ex-helo pilots from the "rotor to wing program."

Have you considered Skywest? Newest TA in the industry and that says a lot.
I did in the past, but there are a lot of reasons why skw has fallen off my list...Seems like a decent company to work for, but there are also many downsides to it

Late 20s. So I'd most likely be looking at 145 LGA to start. I'd actually prefer the 145 for the higher bonus, but if for some odd reason 175 DFW was available, I'd take it in a heart beat. 145 DFW would be even better....I don't buy into the whole must fly a 175 or else craze....otherwise compass and republic would be at the top of my list.
