Just wanted to let people know there will be open houses in Chicago on January 21st and Miami on January 23. Trans States is hiring First Officers and Captain Qualified First Officers(CQFOs). Details are on the website.
Oh good ... this guy joined Jetcareers![]()
CQFOs are not, near as I can tell, direct entry Captains, correct?

No. They are first officers that are qualified to act as Captain as well.
You are paid a guarantee at blended rate, but when acting as captain you are paid at the captain rate.
Maybe, I know of two Eagle FOs that interviewed and when they asked TSA to put the CQFO pay in writing, TSA said no.
That would be what I would ask them for as well. Too bad.Maybe, I know of two Eagle FOs that interviewed and when they asked TSA to put the CQFO pay in writing, TSA said no.
The CQFO stuff is in the contract but what is to stop TSA from hiring them and then only qualifying them as an FO when they reach class? I know Silver did something similar to a couple friends of mine. They invited them down to interview for Captain positions only to offer them FO slots at the end. What was their concern? That they'd be paid at FO pay rate when not acting as Captain?

When a pilot holding a first officer bid is assigned to captain duties during any portion of the month, such pilot will be paid for all trips flown as captain at captain rates. When a captain qualified first officer flies trips as a first officer, he will be paid for all trips flown as a first officer at a rate equal to the average of the captain and first officer rate for that equipment (rounded up to the nearest cent).
A buddy of mine is a pilot and pilot recruiter for TSA. He's probably one of the most honest persons I know. I believe a 4th class of CQFo'S started yesterday. I know 2 people who have finished ground school and are on their way to their Orals and both have not made any comments to me about the company pulling any shenanigans toward what was offered.
Not trying to be a cheerleader here, just saying so far there has been nothing to make believe what I was offered or anyone else, would be different upon showing up for class.

I can't say I would blame them for trying to get the CQFO stuff in writing. Especially with TSA's history. Trust takes a long time to build back up.
Growth. TSA needs pilots who meet the upgrade minima to staff the airplanes as they begin to arrive. There are a very limited number currently on property who are ellgigible to upgrade.

Last I heard there were only 35 FOs on property that meet the mind to upgrade.
The question that pops up is why even use the CQFOs then? If the people that qualify will automatically upgrade anyway it seems like a complete waste of time. Sounds to me like the CQFOs wont necessarily auto-upgrade with a system bid.Growth. TSA needs pilots who meet the upgrade minima to staff the airplanes as they begin to arrive. There are far too many opportunities out there right now for Pilots for an airline to pull this type of stuff. Silver managed it back in 2012 when the environment was much different. It would be foolish for TSA to believe that someone would show up to class expecting a CQF position, be only offered an FO position when showing up, but then actually stick around for that FO position.
As for pay, here is 3.I.6 of the TSA CBA:

GooJets! GeoughJets! GeauxJets!Just saying that people don't trust TSA management. Going through the work of starting a new airline and getting a competing union started at that airline takes a ton of work and money to screw over labor. People don't forget that type of thing easily. Getting the agreement in writing for a CQFO class helps reduce the stress of forfeiting their seniority and longevity at another airline.
