Trans States Airlines - Good to go or no?

IMO Mesa is cheating for their top tier numbers. They have warm weather bases that don't get hit several times a month by a winter storm.

Unsubstantiated, so correct me if I'm wrong, but don't their aircraft also lack ACARS?

"Hey air shuttle 1234, what was your out time?"

"Ummmm...whatever 3 minutes early would have been."

Block or better, and on time, every time.

So, I'm not doing this to bag on you, I just don't think you realize what you just said.

Those aren't new airplanes; they are XJT airplanes, and they include tail numbers I have in my logbook. XJT is shrinking the ERJ side by 2 aircraft per month until the airline doesn't exist anymore in late 2017.

The reality is that regional aircraft are shuffled around, but I want you and everyone else who hasn't been around for a while to understand that this is what's happening. It's not industry growth, it's a net total shrinkage of regional aircraft in the United Express system, and they're going from XJT to TSA.

This isn't good bad, it's just how the industry works, but let's not call them new aircraft.

The flying I'm doing right now was originally done by ASA, until Skywest bought them and closed down that base and took over the flying. Then XJT took over the flying, which I was hired for in 2007. When Delta pulled out of that contract, I was furloughed in 2008 and it went back to Skywest. Now, I'm at another regional, flying the exact same pairings I was hired for in 2007, with the 5th airline to fly these same segments in 8 years.

The flying isn't new, it's just got a new tenant.

"The flying isn't new, just the tenant." I like that analogy. That explanation quite poignantly and succinctly sums up our race to the bottom. Most folks recall that once fulgent and verdant neighborhood supported by residents who took pride in ownership and involvement, and enhanced through infrastructure and school investment brought about through taxation of prosperous, well-regulated businesses and residents. And then the tragedy of the common... Everyone scrambling for a an angle and a little more for themselves... the businesses moving for literally greener pastures with tax-breaks, the people taking less responsibility and undertaking less involvement and then, eventually, those who could following the businesses out into the green pastures... only to continue the cancerous cycle. The original neighborhood? No neighbors. Just new, increasingly desperate tenants paying rent while trying to survive on the shards left behind. And those born into the shards and once-green pastures with only a nagging cynical hunch that something better once existed.
Remember flight attendants who were attendant? Recall captains who greeted passengers at the door? Recall routes that were served rather than raped and ravaged?
I must be getting old and crotchety.

Trans states interview was...............strange. Passed the written went in for the two on 1 with 2 captains and then...........

They tore through my airline apps going all the way back to 1998 asked me a question I would answer and then he would tell me I don't want to hear that! He sounded like a broken record! Some questions like why wasn't I flying during x time was stupid - how could I fly during that time when I wasn't commercially rated dumb a-ss? Then again with the I don't want to hear that! Good ole boy network- alive and well at trans states!!!!

I guy from eagle was told straight he wasn't about to get a cqfo position in a very rude way. They treated us both like Poopy!!!! And this guy is waaaaaay qualified on the 145.

And Laura wonders why people don't come that are f.o.'s. If the 2 that are from the movie deliverance are interviewing people well good luck with that!
Sorry to hear that. I've been noticing we been hiring more pilot recruiters, so might not be the same atmosphere from when I interviewed a few years back. Remember the interviewer name by chance?

Oh yes, the first guy name is Michael, he wore, jeans, a Regional airline academy shirt with a st louis rams jacket, He looked more like he was about to go watch a football game than interview us. He seemed to be the lead good ole boy jerk. The next guy was I think Shawn or something like that. I am thinking about letting Laura know as well as Ryan Stamper, those two guys should not be interviewing anyone, Trans States it appears still have a few problems to iron out. Like I said , if Laura wants to know why she can't get people, she should start with those 2 and offer to re -interview those that "failed " the interview or told its' going up to the pilot review board. Trans States is missing out on some well qaulified good aviators because of these two.

Yikes. That certainly isn't something I would consider acceptable at any company... But to have that going on in this current job climate? Wow.

Keith Stamper will put a stop to that. But if you do have time please email him that.

that's OUTRAGEOUS, FloridaBeachBum.
I interviewed at the red-headed stepchild, GoJet, and had a similar experience last year: was told it was a "get to know you interview" and was bombarded with lots of technical questions; the line captain interviewing had a 4-day beard going and yawned so much I think he must've been up 'til 4am the night before downing beers. Completely unprofessional.
I would've expected better from Trans States and was interested in them, but now am definitely not.
For a place that claims to be desperate for pilots, they don't act it - that doesn't mean you get the applicant to fog up a mirror and then hire, but it does mean you make it a welcoming environment which clearly it wasn't for you.

Nope...all ACARS equipped and operational for time reporting purposes.

I was wondering if I should amend my policy of never flying on regionals... guess not.

Kieth is a very busy man. Still trying, but also moving on. I agree with you STS. If Laura would have been there, things might have gone differently. Those 2 idiots did not follow the interview script, kept trying to trick me with a departure plate question like, what frequency do we tune if taking off runway 30? Since 30 is a westerly departure there is only one. They even went back- way back to my employment record dating from 1994 asking why didn't I stay there? Another thing they said was I needed to sound smart and intelligent I needed ATP style answers to there questions. They also kept referring to me in a very derogatory way as Mr. Chief Pilot. They were very "GOOD OLE BOY" "(code)" in the way I was treated, I am sure if Kieth or Laura found out they would be removed from the interview team. I knew Kieth from when I was at Comair. Hope he listens to this or reads this and makes changes or maybe some one else needs to get involved, I have a cousin that is a high level with a certain goverment employment agency that oversees this type of treatment. But I prefer if Stamper works it out.
