Training Foreign Students

Is anyone familiar with the process and steps I would need to take to train a foreign student? I have a prospective student; Canadian business man on Wall Street who is living in the US and looking for flight training. Unfortunately I am free-lance instructing and don't have the luxory of a flight school chief pilot or manager to help me with the situation. I have an understanding of the basics of what need to be done, but i'm not quite sure how to do it.
I was planning on giving AOPA a call in the morning, but i'd really like to get this started tonight if possible. If theres anyone who has dealt with this situation and could give me some tips i'd really appreciate it.
 
Not too sure if it's possible to freelance...if you are not a citizen you have to apply online with the Alien Flight School Program (AFSP). As part of the application you have to select the school you are going to attend, and the AFSP approve you for training, and your flight school to train you (this after application fee, finger printing and FBI check).

CFIs or Part 61 providers who do not have FAA school certification numbers must sign up as individual flight training providers. In this case, each instructor would sign up as a provider admin. For instructors who teach within a Part 141 (Part 142) school and also teach separately as a CFI (Part 61) provider, the instructor should sign up as a provider agent within the Part 141 or 142 school AND as a provider admin for instruction on a CFI (Part 61) basis. The instructor will validate candidate requests for the Part 141 (142) school separately from the CFI (Part 61) instruction.

It looks like you need to register as a flight training provider and have him jump through the hoops.
 
As was pointed out, it is possible. It is rather painless to set yourself up as a training provider with the TSA. The student then goes through the process- fingerprinting, applies to the TSA. You will get an email notice that a student has requested training through the TSA. You respond to the email verifying the request. The process seems to take about 5 days. Now since you're a 58 pilot it may take longer.
 
Request has been put in with flightschoolcandidates. I've confirmed with the website, however before being sent a password the local FSDO has to review my application and give approval. Unfortunately in two days of calling, all i'm getting is answering machines. I don't think i'll push it anymore and try my luck by pissing off the local FAA. I'll just sit on my hands and wait for the approval. PLUS the guys a leafs fan, and they beat the Isles last night, so i'm a little pissed hehe.

Make sure you keep the TSA records on you for a long time in case something unexpected happens. This way TSA can be blamed for letting the student be trained.

The student and the school get a letter of approval from the TSA, and the TSA online system also keeps a record of it.
