It won't change anything - the spot is a tourism draw.

They could remove that stone facade next to the road, though - seems the last time I saw someone bite it there, it was because their head hit that thing. This woman at :30 is what I'm imagine happened:

This, that little cement curb (or whatever you want to call it) makes it even more dangerous, the road is narrow, someone lets go of the fence, gets about 2 steps back, trips over their own feet and head meets concrete. Not saying that the problem but it doesnt help. I have also seen people eat it a few times down there.

Hopefully this won't close the beach or prompt the construction of a blast fence. Maho Beach is proably the best aircraft spotting in the world.

I would guess it's probably there to stop sand from covering the road, but it's such a short stretch you'd think they could just use a sweeper truck once a day or so.

Jesus. You can hear her head hit over the jet.

Probably more to prevent cars from going off the road and getting stuck in the sand. Either way all the injuries I've seen there involved that little wall in one way or another.

Stop erosion, reduce swells and waves , provide a barrier to drunken tourists from inadvertently backing into the road.... One might say the concrete has more business being there than the people hanging onto the fence.

Eventually they'll probably put a jet blast fence. Wont stop people from enjoying the landing airplanes which is the thing most peope want to do anyway.

They have road guards that stop traffic while aircraft depart. If they don't let idiot tourists hang on the fence, that would probably cut down on injuries from the wall
Make everyone stand on the beach, that way when they are standing behind a departing heavy and realize they've made a yuuge mistake, they can lay down behind the wall instead of tripping or smashing their grape on it.

Who is they? There was no one stopping anybody from doing anything the last time I was there.
