Top Gun question

Another forgotten hero. *shudder* I love old airplanes, but I'm not really much for boneyards. I apply a certain degree of animism to airplanes, and seeing them in that condition creeps me out.

Always reminded me of what is left after a gang of poachers ride through. When I was out there a number of years ago, there were -105s laying all over the place, wings hacked off, canopies gone, noses chopped off. Like destroying the rhino for the rhino horn.

Reminds me of a story my old man told me from his Navy days. There was an A-4 on the field, stripped of almost everything for parts, and a sign hanging from it that read "Please re-use this container." I guess some of the specialized containers were in shorter supply then than the parts themselves at times ;)

That sucks Mike. The guy flys his tail off to save it and doesn't get the recognition he deserves. You think that could have been used as a little psychological warfare. The US pilots are so good they don't even need weapons...

That story should have been on the front page of every English speaking newspaper.

On another note, is that EF-111 pilot a Red Flag IP now?

Ghastly. Absolutely ghastly. Airplanes are living things to me, in a sense. Might as well be a field of corpses.

I guess long ago I thought of the manned airplane as the everyman's cyborg. Without the man, it is just metal. Without the metal, it is just a man. (or woman as the case may be.. always Mr. Sensitive :D)

Perhaps you're right. It just feels weird to see something so neat cut up into pieces and left rotting. Like a building after a fire, maybe.

reminded me of the movie Coma...
