Took my mother flying for the first time...

And had the most scenic flight of my life. Was crazy cool. I've been instructing in the San Diego area since March but have never done this flight before. So when my mother came down this week, I had to do it for her, was the most amazing flight ever.

500 ft down the coast of Point Loma, and then 800 Ft down the San Diego Bay and across the Coronado Bridge.

And sorry guys, I forgot to take pics. (I even keep my camera in my headset bag so it's with me every flight) But I was so busy trying to entertain my mother and show her a great flight I completely forgot. Hah.

Not to mention my mother was the most nervous flier I've ever flown with, even having done many intros.

If you ever get down to San Diego, make sure you do this flight. It is well worth it.

I did the same thing many years ago. My mother was not scared and enjoyed every little bit of it. Did you mother give you that "I'm Proud" look? Enjoy it while you can because it won't happen too often.

No, but she gave me the, "It's not your flying ability... it's the plane" speech. :rotfl:

That would be a great flight. Point Loma and the beaches are terrific plus the view of NAS and the docks.

I've never had the opportunity to take my mother up, but I did take mother-in-law at my wife's request since she (the wife) hadn't completed her PPL yet. I flew my Mom-in-law around Eagle Mountain Lake from Hicks then asked her is there was anything she'd like to see or do. "What do you suggest?" she said. "Do you want to see a spin?" I replied.

She's a real pistol so now I know where my wife gets it from. My father-in-law wasn't as enthusiastic about flying, so no spin for him.

Love the bay tour. I always started out to the east past Mt Helix, down to Brown then up the strand. I bet that was a great feeling getting to take your mom up. Awesome!

Where in San Diego do you instruct? I used to instruct out of KSEE.

First flights with mom are super cool.

I took mine on a trip up the Hudson River and let her fly. After about 20 minutes she says "doesn't your hand get tired doing this?"

I look down and she has a white-knuckle grip on the controls.

I just cracked up and said "mom, it's ok, you can relax. The airplane isn't going to fall out of the sky if you let go."

Good times.
