PFT, which is really PFJ, can mean a lot of different things...has no official defination. Different schemes work in different ways and, to me, have their own levels of distaste.
I draw the line at whether the plane could go without you. If you are simply warming a seat that doesn't need to be occupied for the plane to move, then I don't see it as a big problem (most of the other professional pilots here would disagree). If the plane needs you to dispatch, and you are paying the company to fill that seat, then I have a problem with it. I'll just say it's bad for the profession for pilots to be paying for jobs...want more, do a search.
Can an Air Vegas 99 go without an F/O? I doubt it. It's PFT and just as bad as Gulfstream.
My hope for those who PFT is that they get stuck in the low end jobs they are helping to create. I've heard it said that PFT hasn't effected the industry because it's too small to be a factor. Maybe so...I hope so. A forest fire starts out small, too.
