To my CR7 and CR9 bretheren out there...

So does that mean you are climbing out with flaps out below 10K before accelerating?

Nope! You can bust the 250 KIAS <10,000 rule for operational necessity.

The problem that I have is that a lot of aircraft climb at 250 until their up in the flight levels. Pain in da rump.

Man, the only time I've ever flown an approach per the profile was in the sim. Every other time it's either been a visual approach or ATC jacking with my speed. We've got the same speed you guys do, except our flaps 8 is 200 and flaps 20 is 180. 30 and 45 are the same as yours. Not all of our planes have the flaps 8 setting, though. Generally, if I'm gonna be making turns at or around 210-215 kts, I'll use flaps 8. 200 or lower, I'll go flaps 20.

We also don't (as far as I know) have a restriction on the gear being out at the same time as flaps 30. I've done flaps 30 with no gear before, and I've sure as heck done gear without flaps 30 (as in "best possible speed to the marker, cleared ILS 36R").

That's company procedure here for flights < 1 hr in duration.

Also, above FL180 the 200 can either:

A) Climb at 250
B) Level Off

:D

Actually, we climb at 290 above 10K. HA! Granted once we hit 20K or so, it's more like "VS mode, 500 FPM."

Ouch!

Back in the old days, it was 250 until 10K, 300-320 until .76 and then .76 thereafter.

Southernjets innanashnul threw a bunch of CRJ's into DFW and suddenly it was darned near 250 forever unless you took a vector off-course.

Damned Canadians! :) :sarcasm:

We have a climb profile (that actually isn't approved) that involved 250 until 10K then accelerate at 1000fpm until the airspeed bleeds back to 290 and then 290 until 500fpm and 500fpm for the duration. It actually gets you above F260 doing 290 or better. It's all about inertia management:)

The problem of course is that doing 1000fpm at 12000 tends to tick off ATC and it burns a bit more gas then the other profile. That and doing 320 at 14000 is REALLY loud in the CRJ.

335 kts @ 4,000 is really loud, but that's another story.

I'd actually like to see step climbs, but I think the stage lengths that we are doing now just don't warrant them. Those 170's are taking most of our longer routes now.

Never seen it written out as a profile, but that's EXACTLY how I normally do it. I see a lot of guys keep it in SPD mode when they transition to 290, but I'd prefer to keep climbing.....

Our new fuel conservation profile in the -200 is 200 to 10K, then 250 to .74M. Making lots of folks angry, and it just gets tossed out the window in ORD.

Yea last week on OE the captain asked me if I felt different in a jet.. I turned to him and said... "yea, we have Air conditioning- but whats this vs .5 thing I am having to do?" he said its called a -200. He had fun mentioning- "wait till you need antiice in the climb and its above ISA, in that case anti ice defines anti climb..." I still wouldnt trade it for props though!

Man, took me weeks to NOT try to flare the thing too high. I was afraid I was gonna lawn dart the thing for the longest time.

You can clean manuever at 200 kts, but if I've got flaps 8, I'll use 'em.

LAWN DART!!! :) :) :)

I dunno why that is so funny to me? Must be the visual. :)

Dude, I have watched those PCL guys land at MSP and the 1st time, I thought for sure htey were going to be a lawn dart. No Lie. Nose low, nose low,.quick flare, squeak the wheels and they land. :insane:

If the winds are more then 5 knots I 3 point land the thing. Really. The nose is down at the same time as the mains. Creeps some captains out, but it works pretty well. The 700 on the other hand won't do that.

I'm guessing you'd be doing a lot less than 500 FPM in a piston at FL200. :)

BTW, who's doing your OE?

Yea, FL200 never happened b4 this job but the 500fpm climbs were standard! I had Mike Taylor for the first trip, I need to look at who the CA is for the next that starts tonight. So far this job is a blast! I just dont look forward to sitting reserve in DTW for the next few months.. Gotta pay your dues though I guess..
