Love my job as well NOW...
I spent my time in the USAF and then another 7 years at 2 different airlines, both of which were (are) in a downward spiral.
I never wanted to be a 121 pilot, but it was all about timing... The day I officially burnt out of the airline rat race I was supposed to be heading to work and was instead at the point that I was standing in my kitchen with a fedex box in one hand my ID badge and SOP in the other. The next day I got the phone call for a position that I had interviewed for months before and then never heard a thing about again. I was really at the point that I was over and done with aviation.
Now I'm back in the employ of the feds, flying 4 days a week and usually have a weekend off unless something really F'd up happens. I'm home every night for the most part, I can have a life that resembles something "normal" when it comes to scheduling and I don't have to worry about the associated BS that takes place in the airlines.
So would I do it again, possibly. It got me through the gap to get where I am. So for that I'm happy....
