TLC Special "Brace for Impact"

Was it me, or were there no perspectives from any of the FAs that were on board? I mean, there were of course several from the passengers and controllers.

Or did I just totally miss it? :dunno:

Has anyone else noticed that not once, not even in his book, that Capt. Sully has never once given credit to God for the safe landing that day? I find that very refreshing.

I have noticed this also, it is what it is though...:dunno:

I noticed too, but not everyone is Christian and/or believes in God.

I havent seen the special yet but I did notice that in person. Cool guy though. Does anyone know if this is available online anywhere?

Yep, I just downloaded and watched it via bittorrent.

http://isohunt.com/download/149199137/brace+for+impact.torrent

If you don't have uTorrent (www.utorrent.com) or some other bittorent client, you're gonna have to download that program, then you'll need WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) to decompress and extract the .rar files that are in the torrent file.

It was pretty good. There were a few lines in there that were not needed, such as, "Only Capt. Sully could of made this happen." - from one of the female passengers.

I know Sully and Skiles did accomplish a great feat, but I'm sure there are plenty of skilled enough pilots out there that could of pulled it off as well. I'm not dogging the crew at all, don't get me wrong.

All in all

I agree.

Kudos to Sully and Skiles for a successful ditching. It was a great accomplishment and should be commended. HOWEVER, to say they are the only crew capable of making that happen is preposterous! Obviously, a great deal of skill was involved....no doubt about it. But, there was also a tremendous amount of luck as well. In fact, I seriously doubt they'd have the same outcome were they to perform the ditching event multiple times.

I think it's hard to fathom for people outside of aviation to understand just how many things had to go exactly right, executed by several different people, with the exact conditions they had at exactly the same moment for this to have ended the way it did.

Everything from the behavior of the pax once the plane was in the river, to the nearbye proximity of rivercraft for rescue, to the professionalism and stellar performance of the flight attendants, both pilots, air traffic controllers, police/FDNY/rescue personnel and probably the proper alignment of the planets all were a significant factor in the outcome. If any one of those things had failed or floundered (except the planets part, LOL) I would think we would have at least saw some fatalities.

No one person can be credited for any of it and it demonstrates honor and nobility that Sully points this out at every opportunity.

I missed it but it looks like it's gonna be on again tommorow night on TLC at 10pm if anyone else missed it too.

Also, for those of you who read his book, is it a good read? Worth the buy?

Where's the credit for the FO? Sully should be pulling for him a little bit more. The poor FO was trying to run 3+ page checklist that is designed to be run from altitude. He was also the flying pilot at the start.

We just had him in class (about 90 minutes ago) and he had nothing but praise for the FO & FA's. He started out his lecture stating how it took everyone on board for the flight to come to the conclusion that it did. I thought he would be all full of himself but he is very down to earth and an all around stand-up guy and was very humble the entire time.

I liked it a lot. He doesn't talk too much about 1549 until the last chapter or so, but I think the rest of the book is still pretty interesting since he talks a lot about his career path and how it's affected him+his family.
