TLC Special "Brace for Impact"

Worth the watch, but what was up with Harrison Ford?

"This Narrator sounds like a dooms day predictor."
Turned out to be Harrison Ford.

I was surprised Harrison Ford used the word "cockpit" instead of the politicaly correct "flight deck" on the show.

Jeff, as of this fall, is the proud owner of a 1935 Waco YOC and has been flying the wings off it (when it was still warm). He seems to be a really good guy and his taste in airplanes is impecable.

From "Brace for Impact" to "Compulsive Hoarders" ugh TLC....

It made me sick seeing that family had so much stuff they couldnt make the effort to eat together at the table.

On another note, was a good show, and will expect the history channel or something come out with something later down the road.

I had the opportunity to watch both Sully and Jeff speak at Oshkosh this year. Everyone overlooks Jeff, and he made a point of it. (This is not a direct quote, as it happened months ago) "Everybody talks about Sully, but they forget if it weren't for me none of that would have happened...I had the controls when we hit the geese!"

The only interesting thing I've noticed during this show, was that Sully had 1000 from the Air Force Academy when he graduated! That is awesome.

Yeah I heard the program at Oshkosh and I walked away thinking the same thing. One thing that really stuck out to me was at the beginning of the show when the commentator asked Sully and Skiles about the first time they came to air adventure and the impact it made on there careers ect, ect... Anyway Skiles goes first and gives the long story about how his parents took him to Oshkosh at the age of 7, bought him a ride in the Ford tri-motor and how he has been coming every year since ect.. Then they get to Sully and the commentator says "well Sully tell us about you experiences at Air Adventure, when was the first time you came" Sully replies "uh umm well yesterday". Now all of this is to say nothing except for the fact that I think Sully is really (IMHO) not all that into the EAA type flying community, he seems more like a 500ft Auto Pilot kinda guy where as Skiles is Mr. EAA taking rides all week in T-28's, P-51's and anything else with a propeller. Look I think Sully is a great guy and he did one hell of a job but so did Skiles and it's unfortunate that his role has been dimensioned by virtually every piece of media made on this event. Also has anyone ever pointed out that Skiles was a downgraded captain?

He had only been on the A320 for a month and this was his first revenue trip, wasn't it? What was he a CA on before taking the F/O slot? Ford said at the end of the show when they went and flew the route again "the two captains"... did he upgrade again?

Not sure, maybe Wacofan or someone else can clairfy for us.

Yeah I thought US air upgraded him during his time off.

Probably just me, but did anyone else notice Jeff's neck when he speaks? Very good special by the way.

I havent seen the special yet but I did notice that in person. Cool guy though. Does anyone know if this is available online anywhere?

dunno, Sully is a glider pilot and in his book he talks about renting Cessnas to take his family on vacations.

----

I think Skiles gets less attention, but the one hour show did call him a captain, twice.

No disrespect to Sully and Jeff Skiles, but I am sorry to spoil the party. What was so incredible about this "special"? What did they show last night that they didn't show us in the past 11.5 months? Way too melodramatic IMHO.
