So, what was the final ruling about the "Taxi Into Position and Hold" procedure. I know it was rumored to be coming to an end on March 20th unless certain tower staffing requirements were met, but haven't heard if that's final?

This is a horrible idea. Don't get me wrong, I get uneasy sitting in postion awaiting clearance sometimes, but I understand the traffic flow benefit. From what I understand the conditions set forth would be very difficult to meet for all but the largest towers...

If anyone knows what's going on, let me know.

I remember hearing about this last year -- I could be wrong but I thought the airport authority (or whoever makes the decision) can ask the FAA to keep 'taxi into pos'n and hold' procedures if traffic needs warrant it.

Towers that want to still use it have to do a safety analysis and show that its capacity will be impacted if they didn't use it. Personally, I love using it when I did my local control training, especially when waiting to get a release from radar for a departure and getting a guy going after getting the required separation.
