Time splitting

I was just pondering the rising cost of flight training and came to this theory. If you split the plane cost with another student during your commercial time building then you would basically be reducing you training cost in half for that portion of your training. You just have one person fly under the hood and the other as "acting" PIC and safety pilot and then both of them can log PIC.

ATP and Ari-Ben do this with the multi-engines but why doesn't anyone do this on the single engine?

I think it is a great idea, and it will help your instrument skills big time! If I were not flight instructing and having fun with that, I would totally get a regular job, and use half of the money to just fly with someone and build good time like that. In the end your income would probably be a wash.

The hard part is finding someone else who you can trust and who wants to fly like that.

At my school that's about all pilots do is split time. It greatly cuts down on the cost of flying, and it encourages pilots to get simulated instrument time as well, which is great for pilots working towards instrument ratings.
