Thoughts on ExpressJet???

That's what the rumor was, but I would treat it as if it were like the gouges state as far as content. Be sure to write a gouge when you complete it. Goodluck.

The one day interview is correct I have talked to someone that also did the 1 day interview a couple of weeks ago...

Is it not? I can't think of any benefits to being Junior. Well maybe that I won't to be TOO upset when I get furloughed because I am not overly invested in the company.

Oh, I know its important.

I just think the ad with the "get there quick and dont look around" mentality is amusing.

Indeed it is, and in large part, the whole "seniority is everything" concept is bunk.

But it does mean something. If I had been hired 2 months prior to my original hire date, I wouldn't have been furloughed. That's $75,000 in lost wages from being on the street, and lost pay bumps, and lost vacation accrual.

So it matters, but it's not the be all and end all of life.

No certainly not the be all end all. I am having a hard time seeing a situation where a smaller number could be a bad thing. Now with that said I would rather go someplace with a better QOL then someplace like Lakes with a super fast upgrade time.

I've been working at Xjet since September and for the most part it's exactly what I expected. There is a fairly good amount of movement now with hiring and upgrades going on at the same time. With that said I'm still sitting reserve in ORD and my seniority has been going backwards in base. I know we have some of the best reserve rules but reserve still sucks a bit. I get used almost everyday that I'm on call but I have yet to break 75 hours for the month.Nothing like doing a 7 hour 3 day trip to start the month off right! Because of that I haven't seen a paycheck that's more than $1600 for the whole month, and that includes perdiem. But most of the crews I've flown with have been pretty good and flying the ERJ is enjoyable. I'm still trying to figure out if the airline life is for me long term though. The uniform seems less cool every time I put it on when I think about the McDonald's guy at the airport making more money than me :)

If you can hold a line in any other base, go there. The DEN-ORD commute is horrible, and having a line in ANY other base will make your life a million times better.

Seniority means a lot. Long story short don't dick around, make a plan and get there ASAP. Don't blow money but don't step over $50k to save $3,000. This might mean buying a bit of twin time, or getting your MEI ASAP, or going to a school that will hire you as a multi instructor at low pay to get hours (ie ATPs).

Also if your goal is to work 121 don't dick around doing anything else unless you want to do it. There are guys I fly with that have a great background but they are junior on a list taking the crap schedules. All the experience in the world doesn't get you 17 days off vs. 12. As someone who got to bid 1 & 2 for a long time, take it from me, you don't want to be junior.

Don't look at first year pay. Yes it sucks. No you won't feel valued (at least I did not). However once you get that over and done with, and have the ability to somewhat pick a schedule, it's a great job if all you want to do is show up, do your job, and go home IMO. It will be sad when my company, and the entire industry, shrinks considerably due to high operating costs. We have seen the job glory days already. Nowhere to go but down in this country.
