Come on now. The Marines ate just fine when they were on a Navy ship, especially the carrier.

Now, that's what I hear. However, all of my sea time was aboard gator freighters (Amphibious Ships) as a part of the BLT (Battalion Landing Team). The Sailors would serve the crap while the BLT was aboard and then bring out the good stuff as soon as we hit the beach....

. Punks....

And soooo scary!!!!

Sailor : "Cpl, you can't bring that sidearm on the mess deck. And, on duty or not, you can't wear your cover while you're eating in here."

Me : "I'll tell you what [derogatory expletive deleted], why don't you come take my sidearm and then remove my cover."

Man, I got to speak to the First Sergeant and the Master Chief alot....

Yep, you got it just about right. But you left out S#$* on A Shingle....aka flavored hamburger on a piece of toast. Ummmm ! Yummy. Although we did have steak and lobster on Christmas and a couple of other occasions. It helps to have someone in your division that worked in the Officers mess. The fruit was usually good, especially when you were on a working party. The supplies would be in the process of getting loaded on and into the refrigerators and by the time a case or tray of apples, etc... would get to the fridge, there would always be some missing. Now who took the food.

p.s. It helped being on the carrier we always seemed have the better setup.

Good Ports - Perth and Sydney, Australia while other ships were anchored offshore, taking liberty boats, we were pier side. Big Plus...

Good Cruise - Yokosuka (Japan), Pusan (South Korea), we missed Singapore thanks to Mr. Hussein, Dubai and Jebel Ali U.A.E., Perth/Sydney, Pearl Harbor, San Diego (home port)

Ship - We had a library, decent workout facility w/bikes, free weights, etc... We could even run around the flight deck when it was open. It was so big that you could get lost if did not want to be found. We could always pull the excuse...John Doe in Dept. xxxx needed some help with his computer.

and we did not bounce around in rough water. Whew !!
