While sitting in recurrent indoc, we were visited by a representative of the control tower. She mentioned that 11/29 is scheduled to close at EWR for resurfacing/repaving for several weeks next year...possibly March or April.

Looks like we'll be contacting "flow" a lot more next year. :panic:

There goes Uncle Lar's plan to have the Qs use 11/29.

Sorry Colgan guys (or simply the one jackass who told us to get out), it looks like Barbie's Dream Jet will be in EWR a little while longer.

LOL! Someone told us to get out?

I actually thought of that as soon as I heard abotu the closure, as this was one thing that was pointed out as a benefit for the Q400s. Granted 11/29 will only be closed for several weeks as opposed to several months, but that's still a substantial amount of time.

There were some other problems mentioned by the controller about the proposed VFR departures (such as LGA approach may not accept the handoff), but I'll mention those some other time.

The airport is so screwed up it almost doesn't even matter what happens with what runways for how long. A runway out for a few weeks is nothing compared to an airport operating with a disgraceful amount of delays for months and months. The POS is in a league of its own.

When 11 is used for landings, Morristown Airport has departure delays because of the overhead flow into EWR 11. They just can't win. A finger is moved to plug a leak and where that finger moved from springs a leak again.

I'm looking forward to doing my last landing at EWR for the foreseeable future in a few days. :)

You wanna base trade with me back to Newark once you get out west? :)

I just checked where I'd be sitting in LAX and I can hold long call reserve there now, which I can probably hack from Salt Lake City without *too much* problem. At this point I'd pretty much break somebody's knee's to get into that base.

Know anybody that needs their knee's broken? I do good work! :)

Screw 29! I did a hairy circle to land from AYRON the other night and that runway can go to hell!

Yeah it was windy those nights...But that is a pretty easy circle to 29. Wait till you do a localizer to 11, then circle over the numbers of RWY 4L/R for RWY 29.

Basically you fly over the airport at 1500' while traffic is landing on the 4s under you, you fly over the numbers for 4. You pass the numbers, count to about five, then tower says "Proceed to the numbers for 29 cleared to land!" It's real fun from the FO seat, you can't see a thing!

-And you'll never have nights like those out in LAX. It's 240 at 10kts every night out there.

Yeah the captain I was with who was talking me through the circle (it was my first time doing it that night, be it in the night or during the day time) told me that after we were clear of the runway.

I don't miss the weather in Los Angeles! I was flying around the basin for 9 months when I was working up in Burbank. The only thing that DOES suck (that you may or may not know about if you haven't flown out there) is when the Santa Anna's start kicking you can be in for a serious ride. The most turbulant flight of my life was trying to land at El Monte in a Chieftain. We tried the approach 3 times and each time we kept going around at about 50'. We ended up taking the plane over to Cable and then eventually back to Burbank.

I was doing that flight with Mr.Owens Valley himself, our guy that had been flying up and down the Owen's valley for the last 6 months. When he told our ACP that he wasn't sure if going back out in a Chieftain was a great idea I was like, "Well if he isn't sure, I'm positive it's a horrible idea and I'm not gettin' back in the plane!"

They sent something bigger after that :)

Yeah. Some jackass posted something on the thread about the new Q400 pic. It was something to the effect of, "DING! ExpressJet, you're now free to move your RJs out of EWR!"

He was cyber-flogged by his colleagues.

LOL...I've done it when the winds aren't too gusty. I've seen it done with gusty winds, and even I'm tired after we exited the runway.

Not only MMU, but TEB is also affected. This is one of the problems the controller spoke about.

I can imagine the flaming. :laff:
