Now to be fair to this guy, if he was up there in his clean and pressed pilot shirt rocking four stripes, most on here would be all "look at the nerd in the uniform teaching ground school!!" Now that he's presented himself in relaxed dress, everyone wants to torch him for being unprofessional. The masses are never happy.

If only there were options other than giant white t shirt and a pilot uniform.

See, though, that's dangerous. I was teaching groundschool out on the Eastern Shore of Maryland back in my College "Daze". Sort of staggered through the door one morning looking (I imagine) like death warmed over, and there were the usual six or seven human beings gathered around the table, not one of them younger than I. But there was this one dude...maybe late 30s. Very erect posture, obviously quite fit. He proceeded to very gently "ask" me to explain some concepts further, and then explain them for me when my hand-waving failed. I learned later that he was a secret service agent learning to fly in his "off-time" (do they even have off-time!?)

I never showed up looking homeless and reeking of scotch again.

Hows come? (Ain't investing 06:31 without a good reason - ain't gettin' any younger!) :D

Forgetting for a second this was a flight school ad, I liked the enthusiasm and the passion the guy had. Being excited about going from private to CFI and being proud of the accomplishment is a good thing. Dreaming about flying the space shuttle and p51s are good things. The joke about a reward for not crashing during his solo was funny, but the best part was how enthusiastic he was about soloing and how that motivated him further. Sure, it was an odd artistic choice for the director to put the guy in an opened up pilot shirt, but I see where he was going with it. End of a hard day relaxed discussion - the result was a little odd but I see the intent and it wasn't bad. And I just liked seeing young, new pilots excited about piloting.

While I'd agree with all of your points, except maybe the half undressed, on a couch interview, it was a flight school ad. It wasn't that the kid wants to fly a p51 that's funny. These are from thier marketing program, actual ads, that's the part that's laughable.

If it was some young guy making a video with friends, it would be fine, unmentionable. If it was some young guy with a bunch of tats posing for a picture in front of a plane for his Facebook, fine. The part that's amazing is the school putting their logo on that video, and paying what I can only imagine is a decent amount of money to have that picture in flying magazine.

Maybe the ads are designed to catch the attention of younger people, or possibly younger people with no direction yet. I didn't find it personally offensive, and if I was a big white T wearing 20'ish year old, tattooed, etc... it would make me feel less intimidated to give them a call for some more info.

Understood, but I wasn't arguing "for" the video. I was just telling Steve why I liked it.

I think your right. From a marketing perspective I can see what they are trying to do with that whole "work hard, see results" campaign. However, as a marketing professional myself, Id have done it a little different if I was trying to appeal to a younger generation.
