Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right seat

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

I did my comm ride from the left seat you'll be suprised how quickly it transfers to the right seat.

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

I DID IT

I know dozens that have also done it

I can switch left to right and back without any problems at all.

It just saves a wad of cash to be proficient in the right seat as part of your 250 hours, not after.

I did the Commercial ride in the right seat, then did the CFI a few days later.

I was the best decision I ever made, as I was almost out of money at 248 hours

x2

I did it as well. Best training decision I made.

I THINK I even took the Comm checkride from the right seat, it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure. Either way it was well worth it. Call the DE before hand and make sure he/she is okay with that. There's no pts requirement stating what seat you have to sit in.

I had my CFI just a few flight hrs after I had my commercial... and saved a ton of cash doing so.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I know it can. In fact I think it will only help you further down the line. I was just speaking of my experience with a few of the DPEs up here in Minnesota. One of which absolutely would not allow the practice. The rest, maybe I caught them on a bad day. The type of day they would say no simply because they could. Just know what the examiner thinks before the ride.

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

SOMETIMES the the airplanes don't have breaks on the right side. SOMETIMES the FAA doesn't like to do a comm from the right seat if the student can't stop the plane themselves. Sometimes the FAA doesn't care. Sometimes they do... Sometimes.

I think DPA could take his Comm from the back seat and pass with flying colors!!! He's pro!

Im not sure if thats sarcasm, a compliment, Jake being drunk, or a mix of um all...:buck:

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

You should probably do your instrument in the right seat too, II is right after I.

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

I did my multi as the intial in the left seat and took the commercial single add-on from the right since i would be doing the cfi soon and its pretty much the same checkride as far as the airwork is concerned. You can even consolodate the cfi and cfii into one checkride sometimes if the examiner is ok with it. Try going out doing some airwork and shoot an approach when you come back in that will save time also if you are going to do a cfii at the same time.

What do they do on the air work for the CFI? Especially since the initial cfi has to be with the fsdo. I know the CFII is basically an instrument checkride from the right seat. But the other, do you just do the comm maneuvers or do you do they expect you to go over every single ppl stuff on the pts?

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

Well some private and commercial stuff. Like power on stalls, steep turn, eights on pylons, and spiral without an engine and land. Stuff like that.

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

I did my Commercial-Multi (Initial) from the left seat and did my Commercial-Single from the right seat. Greasing the landings from the right seat took a while, but I'm glad I did it so I don't have to worry about getting it down for the Initial CFI (Which I am working on right now). I would recommend it, although I haven't taken the checkride quite yet. From my experience, the examiners don't care at all!

I did my initial with a DPE it's actually pretty rare for them to send you with the FSDO in florida. I don't actually remember what I did for the checkride but the PTS calls for the same manuevers and standards as the commercial. I just did the cfii checkride last week and it was much easier than the instrument since I only had to do unusual attitudes and a partial panel non precision approach under the hood.
