Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right seat

GUYSH! GUYSH! GUYSH!
So im thinking of working on my commercial from the right seat, taking the check ride from the right seat, then busting into CFI stuff, getting my commercial SEL on my 18th birthday and my CFI shortly thereafter. anyone try this?
Any insight?

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

You will fail.

Gee that was supportive...

I personally would not recommend it. It is ok to practice a few times from the right but I would wait until after the COMM checkride. The FAA will be expecting you to fly it from the left seat. Why make things harder for yourself. The CFI ride will be challenging enough...Don't make your COMM ride harder than it has to be.

Good LUck

Thanks. I heard around here that at least one DPE wouldnt mind which seat you take the ride in, not my regular DPE, but i could talk to him about it too.

Take it back.

NEVER!

Nah he turned it down, he said it was too big and too long.

So im thinking of working on my commercial from the right seat, taking the check ride from the right seat,

Excellent idea. But go get right seat proficient in the cheapest airplane you can find before starting Commercial training.

(I'm not aware of any Examiner power to choose which seat you do the checkride from.)

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

I see nothing wrong with doing some of the training from the right seat. Just make sure you do some from the left as well. Yes, I know the maneuvers are the same. But they can, and will, look different. Not saying it hasn't happened, but I have not heard of an examiner allowing a commercial ride from the right seat. In essence all have said the same thing. That being it is a commercial ride, not a CFI. Go from the left. Might be only some of the DPE's I have heard from, spoken with, up here in Minny. But I highly suggest learning how to do, and be proficient in, the maneuvers from both seats.

Re: Thinking of doing commercial maneuvers from the right se

the commercial ride is pretty chill, i guess just know what your dpe thinks about it. if you are really on point, and you think your dpe (maybe fed) would go for it, why not just do them both simultaneously? they probably wouldnt let you, but its worth asking.

If you were in the AIM chat room, you would have seen that I already told him that:) Don't be stealing my ideas:sarcasm:

I DID IT

I know dozens that have also done it

I can switch left to right and back without any problems at all.

It just saves a wad of cash to be proficient in the right seat as part of your 250 hours, not after.

I did the Commercial ride in the right seat, then did the CFI a few days later.

I was the best decision I ever made, as I was almost out of money at 248 hours
