Think you're going to 9E?

Overall... This really sucks for 9E! I have a lot of friends over there and I feel for you guys... our FA's had been put through the ringer during contract negotiations... no new hires, junior manning, reserves and line holders were totally abused.

I really hope things work out for all parties involved... but mostly the "pilot" parties... not only for your benefit... but for the benefit of all contract negotiations to come at the Regional level...

Regarding the ATP "marketing". As Stephen said... those pilots are techinically "hired" and awaiting a class date now. Do we put down the folks on here who say in the announcements section that they are "Hired" at XYZ Airlines and in a pool to start? Do we chime in and say... "Umm... you better change your post since you are really just in a "pool!"

Bob

I've been in different hiring pools over the years. Until I was collecting a paycheck...I never considered myself hired.

Heard from another source (who shall remain nameless) that JetU is telling people that the cancelled class are actually due to politcal manuevering to put pressure on the negotiations, yet PCL management has told JetU to keep ramping up operations for future classes. Something has to give on that one.....

I am just starting in this regional business but already I am very confused on poilitics... We had someone come into the class saying they are looking to hire more instructors but that he doesnt know why since classes were cancelled, then again my class was off, then on, then off, and I am here.. so who knows. A contract would be great but until then just make the best I guess!

That's really all you can do, guess. Management came into my ground school on March 6th saying that they'd have a pilot contract by summer. I think they tell every ground school that a contract is right around the corner. Just wait till ya hit the line. Then politics REALLY get interesting. :)

Here's what I've learned about contract negotiations. Don't get worked up, invoked, provoked, pissed off or even pay attention until the TA is out. Everything up until the TA is a cookie cutter approach (for both sides) that isn't even worth paying attention to. During our latest negotiations, even as a strike was threatened, I didn't see too much drama. By this stage, most guys understand the game.

I wish I would have saved all the memo's over the years during contract negotiations. They're all the same. They must come from a central clearinghouse for negotiations memos. Nowadays, I pretty much know what the memo is going to say before I get it. Only the dates and names are changed.

Also, the terms cautiously optimistic and guarded optimism seem to find their way into the memo near the end game. There's a lot of egocentric posturing from both sides enroute to common middle ground. It's really pretty stupid stuff and that's why no one pays attention but the press.

just FWIW and to add some fuel back to this thread... in the 2 weeks of ground school I have been in there have been 2 pilot interview groups and 1 flight attendant "open house". Supposedly the word "pool" was not mentioned to either interview class. For the sake of myself and others I hope that the corporate side gets some forward momentum going!

Surplus of F/Os according to that memo?

But Steve did say they are using reserves to cover open time, and there is the TDY for DTW Capts ----> MSP.

So what gives?

From the sounds of it, ther eis no way is PNCL overstaffed right now!

I'm assuming this is SOLELY management trying to pressure the pilot group during contract negotiation?

Anyway, have they cancelled all classes for the rest of the year?

Or, have there been new hire class dates announced?

As of right now all the classes for the rest of the year are cancelled (unless something got changed friday afternoon). Interviews for new hire FO's and FA's have been underway the last 2 weeks. My buddy who just finished IOE a few weeks ago is MEM based and was sent to DTW to be on reserve because they were supposedly understaffed...(its possible they had him go up there to get his 100 hours in type- its a requirement they try to fulfill quickly). There is one class finishing IOE, one in sims, and one at week 3 in the classroom. Time will tell what happens, but a contract would be lovely to say the least. Hope this helps.

Nope, DTW is apparently down on FOs. I was yanked up there, too. Last I heard, they were good on CAs, but MEM and MSP were getting a little light. Like it or not, CAs are getting hired on at other places, so they're gonna have to upgrade SOME people to replace them. Can't make FO pay forever.

I know someone who was hired to be in the September 11 class but was put on hold and now he and some others from that class are in the October 30 one.

Hello sir,

Is this official?

And if you can find out, is this an upgrade class, a new hire class, or both?

And if possible, what's the # of people in it, if you can find out.

Thanks!

Yea, the info I got came from the teachers that are teaching it... I will try and find out if there is an upgrade but I do know its a new hire on the 30th. There has been talk of upgrade classes as well but I will need to sniff around a little for ya. Give me a day or two..

Doubt if there's an upgrade class on the schedule yet. The last vacancy with CA openings was nixed due to "a surplus of pilots and not getting a new ASA with NWA." No new vancancies have been posted, but that could change from hour to hour.
