They say you haven't had an airline career until....you're either laid off, merged, bankrupt. Got news today that the entire fleet of jets we fly for mainline carrier is being shifted to another of the regionals by the end of the year. #Whipsaw (Outside the states here)
Let the fun continue!

Sounds like ENY.

They want ENY to be all Embraer 145/175 and PSA will be all CRJ 200/700/900. That’s been the plan for years but they keep delaying. They’ve recently stated the remaining CRJs will leave by EOY 2019.

While losing hulls is never a good thing, if it creates displacements it might actually be a good thing. I am several years removed but from my friends still there I’ve heard they are just slowly shrinking CRJ staffing by attrition and flows. Which means being stuck on a shrinking fleet with no way to bid off the CRJ (FOs can’t bid jet to jet, can only be displaced). Hopefully you can bid to a different status that is at least stagnant or better yet, growing.

At this point the news about the retirement accelerating was met with a "Woohoooo!!!"

I remember when my airline’s merger turned into a bankruptcy with a furlough announcement that bracketed my seniority number. My divorce was the icing on the suck cake. But that’s life sometimes. Make the best of what you’ve got and try to move on. Life isn’t fair but make the most out of it. When one door closes find a window :)

Success isn’t easy. It involves doubt, heartbreak, hardship, and hard work. But these are things that will- and should- never go away if you’re striving for the top. Keep on trucking and keep your chin up, that window is there, just a matter of finding and opening it.

Ok, I’ll try to make this sound as non-toolish as possible, but continued happiness is predicated on the name on the paycheck matching what’s on the jet.

Thanks for the words and messages ya'll. It's a fluid process and more details to come we are told with re: seniority, bases/seats/ aircrafts etc, Am currently working on Plan B/C/D in the mean time but I think 75% chance I'll be coming back to the states as a result. Of course this happens during my recurrent training (tech GS+sim+line check) month so doing all this study work not knowing if I'll be flying the same aircraft in 2 months or so haha, oh well haha thats how it goes.

And yes, you know you've finally made it in this business when the paint scheme matches the name on the pay cheque!

Thanks again ya'll.

You never know, it may work itself out in GGNs favor if your guyses seniority will be carried over to Jazz. People will be bitter about that for the wrong reasons. Lots of foolish talk about how GGN deserves this since they took small RJ flying from Jazz, or how Jazz deserves this since they took charter flying away from Skyservice guys. People were bitter when Canadian employees got an extra five year added to their dates of hire as a "sorry we bought you out" prize when AC merged their employees in. Ignore that and just make hay when the sun shines.

Could just apply to Big Red? What about Team Teal? (Cant believe I just suggested WestJet.)

You’re still a tool, but only for saying so in this context.

(But you are correct. In so many dimensions of the concept and so many ends of the operation.)
