Love it! The bokeh is fantastic here, the 230mm really came through for this one. A tighter crop might help this one a bit, the dead space off to the left is a bit distracting for me.

Beautiful dog btw, is it yours? My old malamute passed a couple of weeks ago, makes me miss him a bunch. Good dog he was :)

Sorry for yet another Prague picture, but I have been going back through this set and re-working some of them. This one is from the wall near Jan Palach's memorial at the National Museum.

sorry about your dog. that's the worst.

but thanks, that's my dog sigmund. white german shepherd, and wicked smart.

great pics from everyone. I think this will be a great thread, especially for those who plan on using more than just joint and shoots. Pardon my ignorance but what is HDR?

Great composition, great balance. The sats of the bg could come down, they enforce the blurry bits, overriding the bird. Otherwise, very well done!

Awesome framing of the bird AND the BG. Again, very well done.

The background is a bit distracting, but otherwise very well framed and great capture. Perhaps a stop or two less for the exposure, it is a bit on the bright side. A tighter crop might do well too, the top of the railing is a bit much for me.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, that photo was taken during my whole adventure in DOF experiments.

Nice, aren't experiments fun? Off camera flash is my latest adventure. I have used multiple flashes in the past with the built in IR sensors, but will soon be purchasing some Pocket Wizards to really get some creative shots going. I like this guy's blog for portable (and cheap) flash work.

alright folks, let me have it... the good, the bad, the ugly :)

my goal behind this HDR, was for it to not look too over done. I guess i was trying to go for a naturalish feel.

I was just going to comment on the noise so I downloaded a copy and started playing.... anyway, this is what I came up with, hope you don't mind!

Yes... used the basic B&W preset, messed around with the clarity slider and cranked the noise removal to 100.

I found an old picture I took of one of my college's Cirrus SR20's. Please help me turn it into a good picture :)

These number's are weird, as I didn't know what I was doing at the time
Panazonic FZ18 (P&S)
F/5.6
1/250
ISO100
Focal Length 28MM

It's been photoshopped with CS3 to make the horizon and wings level, as well as some playing around with shadow/highlight settings.

Great idea! Love shots back lit like this, I am planning to start shooting some of my bride & grooms with back lit flash/sun when I can. The one thing that would have really helped the shot would have been some fill flash. Did your flash happen to fire? Doesn't appear so by looking at it, but it can be hard to tell.

3 flashes would have done this shot amazingly well, if you had the equipment at the time ;) That said, you can add some fill flash in CS3. Look for some actions that are labeled 'fill flash' out on the interwebz to help you out. If not, I can try to play around with it in a few days if you don't mind. Just got home from a looong 4 day and time to head to the mountains :)
