The ugliest spot in Juneau...

Actually, discounting the villages, my very unscientific, very anecdotal observation is that the obesity rate here is waaaay below the parts of the south that I have spent time in.
My preliminary observations have a high ratio of agreement with yours.

Walmart, the dump, the junkyard, the jail, and trailer parks...it's like a little slice of the South right here in paradise.

More and more, it's gettin' that the farther North one travels, the farther South one gets...

My wife was born in Juneau in 1956. Her birth certificate says The Territory of Alaska. Boy does that sound old or what?

Frank, a bit of advice from one whose wife has a slightly earlier number.

Never, ever use the word "old" and the word "wife" in the same sentence or paragraph!

Alaska winters got NOTHING on the Dakotas, Minnesota, or Northern Wisconsin. That's statistical and my personal experience.

I beg to differ. Anchorage and South East and Out the Peninsula are pretty mild in terms of temperature, the interior is not.

I've only been to Alaska once. But it is without question one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. That being said, I still don't think I'd have the guts to stay there over winter.

All the coastal areas are warmer than the central plains in the winter.
