The slow down

Looks like some of the regionals that had next to zero hiring minimums met their quota of new recruits. You'll need more than just a pulse to get hired now.

Can you elaborate a bit please?

Places like PDT and PSA who had next to nothing for minimums have either raised requirements or are no longer accepting apps at all. I don't think this is the last of this hiring binge though, but that's just me and I'm nobody

Mins are still commercial multi for PSA...

And they never took anybody with that low time. There was one or two 350 or so, but most were 500.

I dunno, doesn't hiring always slow down as summer months come to an end? I wouldn't worry about it.

I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago. For example TSA posted min went up from 250/25 to 500/50. To tell you the truth I am a little worried that by the time I am ready for the regionals (around Dec/Jan) the hiring will come to a stop. I dont know what to think anymore.

It's probably that their tactics worked and they got enough resumes to be picky and just are adjusting the water pressure again. Hiring should continue. I'm gonna take a guess and say it will be at a steady pace for a while yet. Who knows how long. More than 6 months less then 3 years?

In fact, my airline has been constantly changing their mind on hiring. Just heard the latest on the Beech 1900. They now admit it has to be here to stay for a while (with no current plan for a retirement date) and are now planning on up-ing the total crews back to 25 for 5-6 aircraft. That's gonna require some more hiring than they thought. We only have a couple hundred pilots and with the attrition rate down to 40 pilots leaving in the last 6 months. I can't imagine what SkyWest is doing.

I highly doubt it. A lot of the huge legacies have yet to start hiring again. Once that begins, tons of regional captains will move on, and there will be tons of pilots needed. I don't see the problem going away for another 8-10 years, but that's just my opinion. Plus, there will be a lot of the baby boomers retiring. I think there will be a lot of hiring going on in the future.

I don't know. I don't see this as a BAD thing, actually. It's a sad state when people are worried about the minimums going UP to 500TT.

Two things.

1) The lastfinancial quarter is coming up (plus the holidays) and most hiring departments start to wind down (training department gets holidays off usually).

2) There's no one left TO hire.

Short term slowdown? Maybe, probably due to reasons stated in the above post.

Long term? There is going to be a HUGE market for pilots in the next 10-20 years.

All but 2 of the legacies are hiring right now. Im sure there will be another low time binge hiring by the regionals before the end of the year.

Here is the thing...'aviation' and 'worry' go together. It's a great gig *but* there are SO many variables it isn't and will NEVER be stable. Ever. So, plan accordingly. There are few pilots employed at legacy airlines that haven't experienced a furlough.

The holidays are coming up. If people haven't been hired by now, they won't be ready to fly by the heavy holiday season. After the holidays, demand goes way down. Natural supply and demand...

Trust me, there's plenty of hiring left to do. Like others mentioned, this is a slow period. It was about this time a couple of years ago I started sending out resumes, and I was supremely frustrated over not getting any hits. Low and behold, January rolls around and I get one....then another....then another. It's all about timing.

I love how the slow comes right after I get hired..

Maybe I'll get to sit on reserve for a nice long while..

I flew 15 hours this month........
