The sequester and flight delays

Since when do the airlines pull checked luggage of pax who don't show up? International, yeah. But domestic?? Nope.

As soon as TSA figures out they can make things worse by requiring it under the guise of security while in reality trying to inflict as much pain as possible. Remember, this doesn't have anything to do with reality. It's merely a blackmail effort on the part of a tax and spend administration that has zero interest in the future of the country. Every political appointee is doing what they can to please their boss by inflicting as much pain on the public as possible. Meanwhile, the wasteful spending continues unabated.

Does the FAA have discretion over where their cuts come from? It has occurred to me that they're trying to cause the most visible and perceived chaos by cutting where it will effect the most. Although I'm not sure if that's accurate, or if they have mandated cuts from each sector of the FAA?

I think you're on to something there...

Of course they want the sequester effects to be as painful as possible. Imagine if there was no disruption? You mean the gov't can function on less money?! They (gov't/media) want this to go poorly as justification for increasing the size of gov't.

Well I think of it like a big Rube Goldberg device.

One person's burdensome entitlement program is another person's school lunch program.

One person's wasteful spending is another persons fuel for the Coast Guard C-130 searching for a lost shipping vessel.

That "OMG, I have a $.25/gallon gas tax! Unfair!" is another construction crew working on a new road and repairing potholes around the corner.

We're letting the wrong people run the narrative. We'll protect what we think is sacred and cut all of the 'wasteful spending'. But what's sacred to one may be wasteful to another. What's wasteful to some is critical to others.

Primarily why we need more "statesmen" and fewer politicians that go to DC for the pension, pay, special interest money and constantly run in re-election mode. But we're getting exactly what we voted for.

Enjoy!

To my understanding, no, they do not. The way sequestration is written, it requires a cut to each individual budget line - not an overall budget. No robbing Peter to pay Paul this time.

Well...wouldn't you like to be able to discriminate? I mean if I had a household budget issue, I'd look at all things and pick and choose where the money goes.

The problem is that congress (the Senate) hasn't passed a budget in 4 years. Also the White House had 18 months to prioritize accounts and did nothing.

I know this is turning political, but common...Will the day ever come where we reign in spending? Tax revenues are already at an all time high.

Yes, I would. I'm sure the FAA and every other agency would too. However, that is not how sequestration is written. They don't get to pick, the law picked for them. Right, wrong, or indifferent - it is what it is.

That's the thing. They could have done things to mitigate it's effects by picking. However that would show that the gov't and services could withstand not growing. If you're in favor of big government, causing the most pain furthers your cause that gov't growth is necessary. If you picked wisely and cut the excess, that would only prove that gov't doesn't have to continually grow.

As long as you are OK with inflating our money supply we can have our cake and eat it too by spending 40% more than the government takes in. The Fed Reserve "buys" 85% of new treasuries, we are funding our own debt, it's a sweet system.

Just think if Delta could pay it's labor in "Delta Dollars", and when it needs more just click a mouse button and presto $1 billion in Delta Dollars appear in their account.
