Icon is now going to employ convoluted legalize to try to mitigate convoluted legalize. Well, there's a wise start. They're also apparently taking a page from the flat earth society in their application of logic and cause/effect reasoning

Yeah, yeah. I know... don't buy one if you don't like the terms. Fair enough. But that's not the problem.
The harm here is the precedent this sets for the rest of the industry and how it will affect cultural norms moving forward. Meanwhile, all the King's horses, and all the King's men, and all the King's convoluted legal logic, and all the King's flawed purchased studies... will not create safer pilots.

Yeah, I don't think that is any agreement I would ever consider signing. Especially one that gives them a 30 year option to buy the plane.

I mean, would you buy a house, but give the builder first dibs on any sale for a below market price? I wouldn't either.
 
Yeah, there's no way that I'd ever agree to that. "Get bent, and give me my deposit back" would be the response.

I have some very not-nice things to say about this agreement, its drafters, and those who would agree to it, that would likely result in my being sued for definition (sic.) of character. No amount of amazing GA airplane would be worth this "ask."

Icon... silicon valley based no? A terrible captain I flew with said that but I didn't care enough to verify it.

I mean it really does read like a EULA right? I was going to say there were parts of it I didn't mind... but then I read it again.

You could always take a chance that Icon will be out of business by the time any of that comes to call ;)

It really does. I mean, I haven't read it in its entirety, as I have things to do today that are marginally more important (like reading how Prenda Law will be beamed into space and bits and pieces thereof sent to those who they harmed, for instance), but it certainly looks like they are selling you a very restrictive license.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this tomfoolery come into play more often, either.
 
Save yourself a couple hundred grand, buy this guy a jetski and set him up near a scrap yard and you'll have the same thing....

The target demographic isn't a pilot. It's for people with more money than brains with the need for an expensive toy in the garage with no practical application. In that effect, I think they'll have no issue.

I've been critical of this thing since they released W&B numbers. I still think it's one of the most worthless airplanes built in a long time. I cannot figure out why anyone would buy one.

A useful load of 430lbs. So 2 180lb adults and 10 gallons of gas. A fuel burn of 4.9gph at 75% power, you have about 1.5 hours of flight time with reserves. With a cruise speed in the 75kt range, you can go a whole 57nm in a straight line before needing to turn around to land with 30 minutes of gas!!!!!!
