The Magnetic Stripe on the Pilot Certificate

Hello, I just got my private pilot certificate. When I got my permanent certificate mailed, I noticed that there's a magnetic stripe on the back. Does anyone know what's this for? I have asked a couple of airline pilots, but they had no clue. Thank you!

It's for locating your license.

If you ever loose it your magnetic compass will point at it.

That would be nice, but nope. It only works on hotel rooms that you're not staying in and the breakfast bar across the street. I've kind of tapped out on buying tools, no more of the three time rule. I'm trying to retire.

This. Just put an MEL sticker over it and it will prevent it from doing this though.
