The Last G-IV

I remember going in one in Seattle when they were still testing them. Great looking avionics package for the time.

The G-IV was a game changer, it became the benchmark that put Gulfstream at the top of the corporate/business/private jet market. Gulfstream is still considered the benchmark regarding the very highest end private jets.

Years ago I was lucky enough to get my wife and I a tour to see them getting made. Very cool facility, rolls of aluminum at one end and finished jets on the other.

Kinda like the Beechcraft Starship for me. I remember when they came out and when they went away. Whirlpool used to have a Starship here at KBEH, and I got a ride in it back in '92 or so. They have a G VI and a Falcon or Hawker now, I think.

Do the IV/450 differ? Or is 450 just new nomenclature for the IV?
The 450 is like a IV with all of the 550 stuff in it, but it's still basically the same airframe. It's a foot longer and has FADEC Tay engines, a different APU, PlaneView avionics, flaps/stab aren't mechanically linked and a few other things that have been changed but it's still basically a fancy GIV.

For extra credit, what is a G-400!? My buddy flies one and when asked he eventually throws up his hands and says it's basically just a IV-SP. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what it is.

He's right, it's a GIV-SP beyond a certain S/N. The real conundrum is the G300, it's a G400 with some of the fuel capacity removed, and it can't be retrofitted. Who would buy such a thing?

It’s a IVSP with a HUD and the crappy first gen EFVS
