The Great Jumpseat War of 2019

We’re not allowed to have earbuds in uniform in view of the public according to my FOM. That’s a nah for me. I’m not staring at the ceiling on a 3 hour deadhead

We were told that doesn't apply on flights. I believe our FOM has that same thing too.

What about over the headphones on a deadhead? You gotta have something on to help ignore/avoid the barrage of questions, while you're DH'ing in uniform.

“No hablo Ingles!”

I have a lightweight under armour pullover that I usually throw on for deadheading. I usually just have my stock apple headphones and don’t bring my Bose on work trips.

Both are good ways to get tapped on the shoulder to get your attention. Honestly it doesn’t happen too much and when it does I don’t mind talking to people who are afraid of flying or whatever their deal is

I would totally talk to a kid who's into aviation and has questions in a situation like that. When I go 121. I used to be that kids years ago. But all others might get the stink eye.

I'm generally a total grump "bah, humbug" attitude towards children in general but work is the one exception. As much as people downplay the job we're still rock-star level with some of these kids, and in an age where half of them are glued to an iPad with Peppa Pig on it, it's a good thing to foster a little interest and "woah, cool!" with them.

I would be super embarrassed and pissed if i was a Skywest or republic guy. Letting some dumb lifers put you in this position because they have an inferiority complex sucks.
I still don’t get it. Say it’s an AA flight. Dude from RAH just gets done flying AA flights all day and walks over to grab a jumpseat. Allegiant pilot is already there. (It’s that crappy airplane with 1 jumpseat). Why should the allegiant guy get it over a guy that’s been hauling AA passengers all day? He’s going after AA and AAWO, that’s a given, but afterwards it seems logical he’d be given priority over an OAL JS.
