The Grand Forks stoke

i wasnt saying YOU were the irrational/misguided one at all, i hear good things about duluth actually and intend to swing by there sometime to check it out! maybe the tangent was easier to follow in my head and didnt translate to text properly....

i was saying the people who defend GFK like its god's gift to planet earth are the kooky ones...

I was always curious about the satellite schools but I don't think their facilities are as great as the main campus. I really wish this place was closer to a major city, mountains, and an ocean too.

Hey, I'm currently at the Hawaii satellite school and IT ROCKS!! I definetly recommend it. A couple of us got an apartment here. Sure the facilities aren't at the level of Grand Forks, but it's worth it for one semester. I'm in the equavilent of 325 here. It's a great experience actually having to worry about mountains and flying over the ocean etc. For the last two months I've been hiking, swimming, surfing, etc. and some how rationalized getting my motorcycle license out here and buying a bike. Oh yeah, and I've also had time to fly and go to classes. They are making it easier and easier to come, and they are getting a new seminole over the summer (new to hawaii, old GF Seminole I assume). By Thursday, I'll be done through lesson 85... I think this is a little bit behind, but keep in mind that I didn't fly for the first three weeks I was here and the seminole was just in a phase for the last two weeks so it should be good to go for a while.

Hey, perhaps I should take a semester there for when I take 325 this Summer or Fall (depending on how my currently flight course goes). How'd you get into that?

I seriously thought about doing that for awhile with some people. I don't really know what happened with that idea though. It sounds AWESOME. What classes are you taking that will easily transfer back over to UND?

ok this is very very tempting. can you just bust over there for a semester or something? how does that affect residency back here in ND? is tuition the same? how much is your apartment running you?

i could use a vacation in hawaii

Yeah, I havin a great time now, but you might see me on here around May bitching becuase I have to move my flight home back becuase the seminole went down or something, haha, but it's been working out great so far! The guy you have to talk to about coming out here is Paul Snyder, he's tough to get a hold of, but just keep calling.

I'm taking Aviation Safety, Multi, and Air tran out here. I decided on that becuase all those classes were offered at the airport, which is about an hour drive from the main campus becuase of traffic. So, I'd recommend taking only classes at the airport so you can live closer to there. The other guys I'm with are also doing a combination of correspondence classes with UND or taking classes at Leeward Community College, which is near where we live and under the University of Hawaii System. I know UND has an articulation agreement with Honolulu Community College so most of the classes transfer easily. You can find that agreement on the UND website.

You can go to Hawaii for a semester or for a whole year or whatever you want, but there are some stipulations. You are only allowed one transfer durring a course. (i.e. instrument/commercial) So you could come out for one semester and take multi then go back because your transfer would be between 323 and 325, then you finish the course then transfer back. Or for people that want to be here a whole year, you could do 323 and 325, or 221 and 222. Or of course, you could do 102 and 221 etc.

You'll notice when you come here, the other kids aren't that smart, not all the instructors are that great, and the classes are EASY. You can still learn a lot out here but you have to be a lot more self motivated. Oh and the flying is amazing... actually having to PLAN cross countries and worrying about mountains, and busy frequencies with Honolulu etc. There is a lot of aviation in a small area, much better than Grand Forks.

Oh, and our apartment is about 1365 for a two bedroom. It's really not very big, but it's in a nice neighborhood and very new. I'm not sure how it will affect residency, I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and we get reciprocity, so I'm not sure about other places, I'm still gonna claim Minnesota residency. I was also able to stay on my mom's insurance becuase I guess you can go a semester not full time and still be on it if you are full time the following semester (Fall).

Anyway, I hope this answered some questions.

oh how I hate you ;-). Tell Shane Taijima (one of the instructors out there) that Joe Riegel says hi.

i am from Fargo/Moorhead, going to school at UND. I only came here because it was relatively cheap for the quality of school.

Do i want to live in this god foresaken valley the rest of my life? heck no! And in GFK, not a chance. I honestly believe after 1997 the town should have packed up and dispersed. i could go on, but i won't

I like Fargans. I know it is a forsaken valley, but Fargo thrives man, it tries and like it for that reason.
You know, that is true. They have the Hodo Lounge and decent sushi and Indian food. I like to get out to go to Fargo because it's a bit better than Grand Forks in terms of entertainment and things to do.

It's a cool city, instead of 134 fast food joints per square mile, they have 180 per sq mile. More choices to choose from, just wonderful.:sarcasm:

Wouldn't it be "Fargoans" or "Fargonians"??

Hehe I actually thought about that, I just liked Fargans, then it reminds me of the cola Faygo. that brand always makes me laugh
