The future of pilot jobs

That would be their choice. I maintain there are other options. Why did these guys choose Compass over Evergreen or a Japan contract? They made a personal choice that was best for them for whatever reason. I can't speak to their specific situations. All I can tell you is my friend, who has a family, had no problem getting on at Evergreen and turned down 13K a month, 10 days a month off, with tickets to and from, Japan contract.

If a guy would rather be a Compass F/O than work overseas, that's his business. Personally, I'd rather make 13K a month and be home 10 days a month. How many days off does a Compass reserve F/O get? 12? UPS it would be 13.

To say a furloughed 747 driver can't do better than 20K a year is way off base. Maybe a low time Xjet F/O, like yourself, that I believe.

To me it wouldn't make any sense for seasoned Aloha captains to go to Compass when their are so many overseas contracts with high pay allowing commuting. If not that like Don said there are Cargo jobs out there like Polar's.

I just find it extremely hard to believe an Aloha captain relocated his family all the way to DTW or MSP to make $23/hr. Until I see proof I 'd say this is a false rumor.

Most of the guys at my company commute. In fact I've heard the numbers are as high as 70% of the company commmutes, and I'm sure the numbers are similar at other airlines.

A lot of over sea's contracts won't allow that, and with companies like Polar you're on the road for 18 days straight.

That's unacceptable for some people with families, I know it is for me. I'd much rather leave this industry than go somewhere that I have to be gone for 18 days straight.

I'll say this again, and in fact bold it for you;

Life is not as black and white as you like to think it is, and decisions that involve families are much more complicated than the decisions you are making. Stop making asinine assumptions about peoples lives and thinking they're anything like your own.

So you're telling commuting or moving to DTW or MSP to make $23 as an FO was a family decision? That family's going to see a drastic change of lifestyle just so Daddy/Mommy can be home 10 days a month.

There are a lot of overseas companies that don't allow a commute, but there alot that do. Hell even a few have US bases. Those Aloha Captains probably are prime candidates for a Cathay Pacific US-based freighter position.

Telling me a typed 737 pilot with plenty of TPIC in type is going to go fly a E-175 as an FO for $23 with all the other options that are out there is beyond common sense to me.
 
Yeah me too! I wish I took all his advice, then my life would be awesome!

And I'd still live in a city I hate.

And I wouldn't be engaged.

And I would probably hate aviation.
