The fun never ends! Island Air entering into agreement

Definitely throws a twist into the turn of events... Especially since Hawaiian announced a couple of weeks ago signing an MOU with Empire to operate ATR42s for HAL's turboprop operation. Could this be an easy acquisition of a turboprop certificate for HAL instead?

Seems like WP was a losing money operation since the day it was spun off from the Aloha Air Group. Who else besides HAL that would want to throw money at it at this point is beyond me.

Alaska Air Group buys them is my uneducated guess. :)

On second thought, I have to agree. Alaska has been aggressive with Hawaii. It doesn't make sense when considering the overall theme. But the bottom line is an airline is an airline. Island Air once operated Q400s and this could be Alaska's attempt to take a crack at the interisland market in Hawaii without having to develop its own branding.

Alaska’s rapid expansion into Hawaiian markets during the last four years appears to be leveling off as carrier CEO Brad Tilden remarked to investors that while opportunities still remain in Hawaii, “the hole has largely been filled at this point”. [August, 2012]

Family traveled this week to Hawaii on Alaska..Full flights.....I could see them expanding between islands

Well, the little bit if info I can give. The prospective buyer is not in the airlines an has billions.
