PAN AM INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT ACADEMY SECURES

EXCLUSIVE TRAINING CONTRACT WITH KOREAN AIRLINES

PHOENIX, ARIZONA, MARCH 18, 2004 – Pan Am International Flight Academy’ Career Pilot division (PAIFA) has been awarded an exclusive contract to provide comprehensive, airline-oriented training to Korean Airlines (KAL). Training will be conducted at PAIFA’s Livermore, CA training center, and will utilize the Academy’s fleet of Piper Seminole, Arrow and Archer aircraft. An estimated 60 KAL students will train with PAIFA this year. Since 2001, the Academy has (also) been the exclusive primary flight training provider to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

"We are proud to have been selected as KAL’s exclusive primary flight training provider. This contract demonstrates KAL’s confidence in our ability to provide their future pilots with a high-caliber, airline-ready training experience," said Chuck Glass, Vice President and Executive Director of the Academy’s Career Pilot division.

Glass continued, "The Academy takes a unique approach to primary flight training, because we indoctrinate students with an ‘airline mentality’ right from the start. Our training process is intense, and continually emphasizes the need for discipline, professionalism and accountability. When students complete the program, they not only have the skills needed for employment with an airline, but they are also mentally prepared to work in the airline environment."

Pan Am International Flight Academy is a privately-owned, comprehensive learning institution that provides advanced aviation training services to professional pilots, flight engineers, flight attendants and maintenance personnel operating in commercial, regional, business, military, government and cargo operations around the world. The Academy also offers a comprehensive, FAA-approved Career Pilot training program. Pan Am International Flight Academy is the only flight-training center that provides extensive Air Traffic Control (ATC) training to Civil Aviation Agencies worldwide.

The Academy operates training facilities in Miami, Orlando, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach, FL; Cincinnati, OH; Memphis, TN; Dulles, VA; St. Louis, MO; Minneapolis, MN; Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ; Beaver Falls, PA; and Livermore, CA.

Its Commercial and Regional airline simulator "fleet" includes B767, B757, B747-200, B747-400, B737-200/300/400/500, B727-200, B707, DC8-70, DC9-30/50, DC10, A300, A320, A330, MD80, 328JET, Caravan, Saab 340, CRJ 200, J31/32, J41, AVRO RJ and BAe146.

SimCom, PAIFA’s Business and General Aviation division, offers simulator training programs for an array of general aviation and business aircraft, including the Hawker 700/800/800XP series, Learjet 20/30 series and the Learjet 55, Citation I, II and V series, King Airs, Mitsubishi MU-2, Beech Duke, Beech Baron, Cessna twins, Pilatus PC-12, Socata TBM 700, Aerostar, Malibu/Mirage/Meridian series, Piper Saratoga and Seneca, and the Air Tractor.

The Academy’s Career Pilot division is recognized as a premiere training provider to the world’s airlines. It utilizes one of the industry’s largest fleets of New Piper training aircraft, including the Archer, Arrow, and Seminole, as well as a number of FTDs, including the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ).

I thought Pan Am only had locations in FL and AZ. Is this a new location? What training is done there? Is it just a simulator place or do they have aircraft there too?

Re: ** UPDATE **

I don't know the whole story, but yes Pan Am does flight training at Livermore. I am not sure, but the KAL group might have already been training at Livermore, and PA got the contract.

Re: ** UPDATE **

Yes, Sierra Academy used to handle the training for Korean Air Lines ab-initio program out of Livermore. I believe that they sold that portion of the operation to PAA.

Pacific to Atlantic in a Piper Arrow

I got the opportunity to fly "cross country", literally. Pan Am did purchase the school in Livermore, CA. and they are closing it, and moving the Korean Airlines program to FPR. I got to fly out to Oakland, CA. (on America Worst, uh, I mean West) with 3 other instructors, and we each flew a Piper Arrow back to FPR. It took 23 hours over 4 long days. It was beautiful VFR all the way (except for the pitch dark night flight over the mountains with a high overcast. We filed IFR for that flight.) It was a great way to see the country, and I am glad I did it.

Re: Pacific to Atlantic in a Piper Arrow

I actually interviewed for Sierra Academies KAL program at LVK but never got called back.

Really sucked I didn't get the job because I was only 15 minutes away from the airport living in Dublin.

Oh man, that would be a fun trip!! A few of us were secretly hoping that we would get the chance to fly some of those planes to Florida. Oh well... Glad the trip was "uneventful"!

How many fuel stops did it take? Did you go as direct as possible?

Re: Pacific to Atlantic in a Piper Arrow

In the Arrow with full fuel you can go non-stop for over 6 hours, but my rear-end would go numb by then so we flew on average 4 hour legs.
Day 1: LVK to WJF (food/fuel) to DVT (no hotel rooms b/c of NASCAR) to TUS.
Day 2: TUS to MAF (stayed in Midland because the Arrow would'nt start)
Day 3: MAF to AEX (food/fuel) to PNS
Day 4: PNS to FPR

We could of done it in 3 days if we had made more progress on day 2.

hired by express jet. Forrest starts school on Dec. 6th.

Don't know when Collin starts

Re: 4th stripe

Yes I know both of them and yes they were hired by ExpressJet. I also now of at least one more CFI that was hired there. And I know of a couple other that are interviewing at other airlines this week. Things are really starting to move now!
ExpressJet mins are now down to 600TT 100Muti & 20 actual.
It seems like a good company to work for.
American Eagle mins (at least for Pan Am grads) are 700TT 100multi. But American is furloughing in January so there might be some flow back.

I haven't been in the Seminole since I finished my MEI in July of 2003! I had 2 stands flights this week. Now I know how much I missed flying the "twin Archer".
