The "ER FO"

Eeeww! I hated our Jackson layovers.

We used to have a 24 hour Monroe, Louisiana that was hard to beat... :sarcasm:

Kevin

MON-ro. :)

Jackson was bad as I spent a thanksgiving there. I went and browsed around a closed Jaguar dealership, had dinner at a Chinese restaurant where they kept asking:

"You no eat at home? Whatchoo do here?"

And pretty much went back to the room, watched television and tried to ignore the captain having relations with his newlywed wife.

Next day: "Doug, ya hear that?"

"Yeah, great bro."

how are the loads on the OTP flight so far? my girl is from there and we've been thinking about heading over for a couple days.

Send me a PM with specific days and I can check for ya.

I'm not sure how OTP is, but one of our Czech flight attendants on the CDG flight said, "Please, don't judge eastern Europe on what you see in Bucharest". Whatever the hell THAT meant.

Having a second FO rocks. The guy we have on the six-day CDG trip brings lots of tasty snacks, we've got five different varieties of gums, several types of lozenges, and does killer PA's. The man's a godsend.

No interest in London? It can be a hassle, but for a history buff, its heaven. I'm sure there must be other considerations for you.

Have fun!

Nah, it's usually a "two man crew" which means that you're doing the work of a relief pilot and a regular FO. Plus, I think, but I'm not exactly sure yet, that you're privy to "24 in 7" which means that it limits you in backing trips up together.

Gah. I've got Jackson, MS tomorrow night. Thanks for reminding me. At least it's not reduced rest, but there's NOTHING near that hotel. Well, there's a gas station and a Waffle House.....

I do the same thing too! ;)

I did this:
(avoiding two-man crews and SVO because my visa hasn't arrived yet)

It came out sweet too. I bid the 48-hour OTP layover on the weekend so Kristie can see Romania if she'd like.

Is that what it looks like to bid?

Sorry, in the interest of corporate security, I'm not supposed to comment.

hahahah! Americans always scared of their security :)

No problem, I use to know a CPT on the 767 for Delta and I always use to show him and his crew a good time .. If you need some help let me know with pm.

Ps - I am a pilot.

Well, over debrief beverages with a group of former Pan Am flight attendants, back in the 1970's, some of the baddies would case the crew hotels because they were always full of Americans.

Also, before and after 9/11, we had A LOT of uniforms and crew ID's ripped off from hotel rooms for all sorts of nefarious purposes so you've really got to be extra anal about security.

Doug when do plan on heading down here? Greece is a great place ... I'll recommend some good places for food, drinks and sight-seeing all in one! Wine and dining under the Acropolis, great thing that A LOT OF US GREEKS DONT APPRECIATE ..! Oh and all that beer you've been drinking in the other EU states you've been going to will be out the window here, the WINE is GREAT.

I'm going to bid ATH in August I think!

I wanted to knock out a Berlin, Bucharest and finally get to Rome, but I'll preference ATH next month for sure!

I've had my very first flight as F/O to OTP. And your Czech flight attendant was absolutely right, by saying not to judge eastern Europe only by visiting Bucharest... you have to go to some other places to experience the "real" eastern Europe.

Staplegun, when are you going to Nice? I'm having one or two overnights there almost every month. Send me a PM if you'd like.

Like the FO I'm flying with found out the hard way. Don't put anything on digital media that you wouldn't want on the internet!
