If you consider going from 1,178 to 1,501 is 24 dollars, please dont be a teacher.

you're forgetting taxes my friend and all the other deductions they have..it may not be exactly 24 but it definetly feels like it....believe me I went thru it......you dont really feel the raise until you hit E5 and so on.And secondly, Im not a teacher....I'm a wannabe airline pilot..whoooo! Seriously though if you get some BAH and other stuff then thats when the money starts rolling.

They sure are Max! I'm going to try my hardest to get into the seaman to admiral program, and obtain my citizenship after one year of active enlistment.

Then If i work hard i can catch a Pilot slot and fly as an ensign for the Navy. Nothing beats that.

Good luck on the security clearance...that's where they usually hit the new citizens to keep them from flying...they'll hold it till all their boys are in..by that time you'll be 30.

Best part of being a pilot?

Epaulets. Chicks dig epaulets.

And Beta! Just ask Mrivc211.

<---$2124.60+BAH+COMRATS+HAZARDOUS DUTY+COMBAT+FSA+IMMINENT DANGER-TAXES

=$2234.67 Take home every two weeks or $4469.34/month or $53,632.08/yr...and I am going to leave this to hopefully work as a regional FO why??!!

I have a top secret clearance which is pretty much useless in the civilian pilot profession :(

I just read post one and realized that we have completely hijacked this thread..eh, it happens

You're 18 right? Whats the deal with all the bars on your uniform then? Like how do you earn that in ROTC?

Its just rank they earn it just like as if they were in the real military. I wasn't in JROTC but I was in ROTC at Tuskegee university for 2yrs. I scored well on the Officer canadite (sp) test and the flight portion of the test.

This was back in 95. All the flight slots were going to academy grads first (still are) then to ROTC. They wanted to make me a POC but you have to sign on dotted line and your ass is military property. They couldn't promise me a flight slot but were tellin me that tours were 8-10 yrs.

I told them no and goodbye!

one ribbon each for pushups, kitchen patrol, bathroom guard, crossing guard, 2 mile run, bb gun marksmanship...etc..

Time to split the thread, eh Doug?

As for the original question of the post, I've been thinking about this for hours, trying to find something positive. Let's say that, these days, there more about my job that I dislike. However, I do enjoy:

Sunsets, from the air.
Sunrises, from the air.
Watching a line of thunderstorms at night (from a safe distance) as they shoot bolts of lightning everywhere. The power is awesome!
A greaser.
The 5000' wheelie.

I would think that flying in the "soup" then rising above the cloud layer to seeing the blue sky and the sun would rock.

I LOVE doing that as a PAX I'd imagine that it is truly awesome site seeing it up front in the "front office".
