Dont know many specific details about that incident.... still :S ...
 
Even if you did manage to land, im not sure you would want to get out of the plane.
 
In Vanuatu they use many strips as cows pasture, they have an "airport" agent that scares them off when there is a scheduled flight. But when you fly charters it`s a big problem, some are fenced and there is only one point of access. I did many low passes but with no place to go they just get back on the strip by the time I was on final again...I would be able to push them on one side and try to land in the first half of the runway, tons of close calls in the last year. Where there is no cows there are locals playing soccer or a mower forgot in the middle of the strip!

Cows seem to like eating static wicks too...

I once read of a pilot who flew from a cow pasture on a daily basis. Over time, his preflight became too brief. One day after arriving at his destination he realized that a big chunk of fabric was missing from the side of the airplane opposite of the door. The cows had eaten part of his fabric.
