Thanksgiving on the road?

mooneyguy

been around forever
It's a little early, but I know there is usually a "who's on the road for thanksgiving" type of thread. This will be my first "major" Holiday on the road, and lucky me I get to spend the day in Moline IL.
I know everyone is envious. :)

Anyone else stuck on the road this Thanksgiving?

I'm not on the road, but I am too far away to go home for a day. Going to be the first of many holidays I will miss from the family.

Yuppp. I'll be between Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Columbus and Buuuuuuuuuuuffalllooo. Meh.

What are holidays? The nature of my job leaves me on the road all the time. Holidays typically end up being a busy time for us, so I'd venture to guess I'll never see one off the duration of my employment here.

I'll be starting a 4 day trip on Thanksgiving morning, but thankfully I'll be back home the Sunday-Wednesday before so we're doing an early dinner.

Nothing like Spokane for Thanksgiving!

Believe it or not, in 6 years I haven't worked a single Thanksgiving. Well, that isn't true, I think two years ago I bid to purposely work on Turkey Day but was done around 10 AM, and that was so I could get Black Friday and the next few days off. Last year I was "on call" reserve from midnight to noon, and didn't get called. I'm 4th from the bottom lineholder now and I have the 22nd of Nov to 10th of Dec off. But, I do have to work Xmas, my first one since 2005. Tradeoff was so much time off around Thanksgiving.

If you guys are on the road for the holidays, at least you'll have the opportunity to be back home shortly thereafter. At least its not a 1 year or so deployment away. Could be worse.

That's why we love those that have served in our military! I know one thing I'm always thankful for is the service of those that allows me to have a Thanksgiving.

Happy Veteran's Day MikeD!

Much appreciated! Im just throwing in there that missing a holiday, while it indeed sucks, could be worse. The good thing is that some days before or after, you will be together with family again. And that is truly something to be thankful for. Don't let yourself get too far down in the dumps over missing a holiday. It can easily be made up.

While I am sure I will be sitting in my crashpad in EWR sitting reserve for Christmas, I will have ThanksGiving off. All thanks to the FAA not working on or around holidays. I am headed to EWR to start my Captain OE tomorrow but won't have my Fed ride till after TG!!! WOOHOO

I grew up in the airline environment, so to me the holidays are whenever we all get together to celebrate. I, myself, will be working 17-01:30 that day.

Yes Sir you are correct. This will also be the first Tday My "baby" will be away from home. She is now in Turkey with her hubby who is serving!

This! I have to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and also on New Years, however I'll be back a couple days after each holiday to see my family. It could be A LOT worse!

Im sure Ill have a day trip on Tgiving, but the fam is in Florida anyhow, so most likely itll just be another day for me :/
