Yay for TFR fun!

I had a guy call up last night and wanted to know about the TFR and told him he'd need to file a flight plan ... he didn't "know how, as it been a few years" he didn't even know about WX-BRIEF. Wow.

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

I was gonna post a thread about the PHX. TFR's due to the presidential debate thanks for saving me the touble.

Anyone know what the TFR's are going to be for the debate. A friend told me that he saw on the news that PHX will be a no fly zone for 48 hours starting today.

Somehow I doubt that ALL air traffic in and out of PHX. will be stopped. Yup just looked out my window here at work and see a HP 757 and a WN 737-700.

Anyways can someone list the flight restrictions here in the greater PHX. area thanks.

Sounds like a guy who I had for a BFR last year.
Lets see your license, medical and logbook
Him "What medical"
Your paper where a doctor signs you off saying your in good shape to fly
Him. "I don't need no doctor to say if I can fly. I been flying since you were in diapers"
Your logbook shows you havent flown for three years
Him " well its like a bike you never forget"
Our flight will consist of stalls, landings, takeoffs, emergency manuvers and procedures and basic airmanship etc...
Him "Look I don't have alot of time or money just sign my book and lets do a couple of landings and call it good but none of that crazy stuff where the plane falls"

You mean stalls
"Yeah whatever you call it"

I finally say that I feel really sick and cant complete the BFR here is name and number of another CFI that will be willing to work with you.

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

well I know SDL is a "no-fly" zone for a good 48 hrs from now.. the entire airport is shut down... i'm sure all my neighbors will not even notice (but will complain at the next noise meeting!)! haha

I think the perimeter's are 10 miles in Paradise Valley, 10 miles around the ASU campus and 10 miles around the phx airport (most likely for small aircraft).. but don't quote me!

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

Okay well I know that the TFR's are in effect but I found it very unbelievable that the entire PHX airspace would be shut down for 48 hours.
Now the PHX airspace will be probably closed during the debates and both rallies afterwards and most assuredly when he leaves on Thurs.
But I wouldn't expect the entire PHX airspace to be closed more especially PHX for a whole 48 hours that would totally screw up the ATC system. Not to mention royally piss people off.

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

Scheduled passenger flights and certain cargo operators are conveniently exempt from the TFRs. They just have to be on a flight plan, which they always are. It's GA that gets screwed.

That's pretty gay man. He deserves a slap. Do you know if the other CFI gave him the review and if he passed him?

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

That only works for the outer ring of most TFRs. Most presidential TFRs also have an inner ring, usually 10 miles, which is a no-fly zone for all except military, scheduled pax service, and certain cargo ops.

Re: PHX Area TFR\'s

I beared witness to a Cessna being intercepted today. It was an interesting sight! The pilot busted through both controlled airspace and through the TFR (the TFR being the worse infraction of the two, of course) and be followed by a couple of F-16's into the 10 mile no fly zone. He got on the ground and was met by a couple of police cars, the Feds, and a Phoenix PD chopper. It was really quite a spectacle. Makes you think twice about hoppin' in the ol' 172 for a short cross country without calling flight service.
