Test flying an aircraft for pre-purchase inspection

Hi, is a test flight by the A&P (or sales agent) normally incorporated with a pre-purchase inspection of an aircraft?

Insist on a quality pre buy before even bothering to show up to see the plane in person (if it is away from home).

Then, a quick flight before the final sale is fine. The last one we did the seller picked us up in the plane in Orlando we flew it to his office reviewed the logs and laid down the ink. All in all it took about 1.5 hours and out the door.

You might want to make a checklist of things to check during the flights, including all avionics, storm scopes, radar, ice boots etc.

I'm looking at a 140 in East Tx that hasn't been flown in 7 years.
No battery, what should the pre buy involve?

One thing I discovered the hard way...if something doesn't seem quite right on a pre-buy flight, even if it seems like a simple explanation, dig deeper. "Carb ice" and "spotty VOR reception down low" from our pre-buy flight turned into sticking valves and a broken NAV 1 after the ink was dry on the purchase of my Cessna.

I test fly airplanes the day before ferrying them. I check the VOR receivers, all Comms, GPS Receivers, anti-ice, best fuel flow settings, oxygen cylinders and masks, pressurization and just get the general feel. I have bad experiences (when first started ferrying) checking all these things while on the actual ferry.

thanks for replies- I'll pass on this sweet bird.
Apparently moisture is a big problem on these engines and can cause considerable
internal rust.
I was told to deduct the cost to freshen the engine from purchase
price even though only 400 hours SMOH
Too bad the owner just left it sit when he lost his medical.

a good prebuy would catch the rust or should. I know the AP IA that I apprenticed with used old medical scopes to check for rust in engines as part of his pre buys
