Test Cost Question (If anyone knows)

I apologize if this is in the wrong thread.

Has anyone ever heard of the FAA softening the blow of the costs involved with testing? I had to take an MWT (a "can you stay awake for eight hours" test) to complete my ATC medical, and apparently the sheets were made with Egyptian cotton. It was about $2500.

I'd roll my eyes if I were reading this too, but this seemed like the most painless spot to ask.

The FAA has nothing to do with the cost of the tests. Prices are set by healthcare institutions based on Medicare allowable reimbursement and the cost of operating these institutions. I agree it is expensive but it is expensive to get your car worked on or have the plumber come to your house.

Right, and I understand. In my reasoning, however, it couldn't hurt to take a chance and ask.

That is, no more than $1,100 for a day of watching TV in a hospital room hurts.
