Terminal or Enroute

centers are no joke! i know people from my af days that are washing out of centers.

Yeah no joke, all kinds washout of centers (Military, CTI, OTS)... Going through Enroute training is a lot of work and probably the worst time of your life. You have to be good and lucky to make it, one or the other wont do.

Heh. For me, I wanted to do En Route over Terminal because of the training. Tons of new hires were being sent directly to level 10-12 facilities, and washout rates at several were getting into 70-80%. Everybody thinks they'll be one of the few that can handle training at a place like DFW or O'Hare off the bat and stay sane/stay married/not quit, but high-level facilities weren't (and still aren't) equipped to train brand new developmentals.

Centers, on the other hand, have large, established training programs. I put down that I'd work at either, but was hoping for a Center in order to get a good training base before shooting for a higher level terminal environment. Which was what I got, so, hooray.

That's not to say all terminal new hires get sent to big places and burn out, of course... it's just that the ones that do, often will.

Hey Rossta, just wanna say, I'm a big fan of your posts, and thanks again for offering insight into a very viable option for me. I think I too, will now go to a center and then consider transferring into a higher level TRACON (possibly).
